Paradise Valley town council plans a 60 000 budget for 1963 64, up 5 000 from last year. Budget details show increased general government and public safety appropriations while road funding drops to 10 000. The town relies on state shared revenues and a franchise levy, with no local taxes.
A 16 month old girl sustained second degree burns on her left side when she jerked a pot of boiling coffee off a cupboard late Wednesday afternoon. Angela Nielsen daughter of Mrs Janet Nielsen of 8614 E Thorn wood Dr was treated and released from Scottsdale Baptist Hospital at 5 30 p m.

A Scottsdale man, Jack Gentry Stearns, 28, was jailed on aggravated assault charges after a 38 year old woman reported being forced into a bedroom and assaulted at a party on Wednesday evening at an apartment on 6125 E. Indian School Road. He is held on 1100 dollar bond and the complaint will be sent to the county attorney.
More than 5,000 people are expected to march from Eastlake Park to City Hall in Phoenix to deliver a list of racial grievances. Lincoln Ragsdale, NAACP leader, says delegations from Tucson Casa Grade Coolidge Buckeye Tempe and labor and clergy groups will join.
Washington AP report says a nationwide rail strike was avoided as railroad managers agreed to a congressional request and postponed their new work rules for at least 30 days. The move ends plans for a potential shutdown that could disrupt cargo and passenger service nationwide.
Daniel P. Loomis announces a 30 day extension to 12:01 a.m. Aug. 29 1963 after appeals by House and Senate commerce leaders to cooperate with Congress. The plan aims to let Congress act on transferring work rules disputes to the ICC.

The United States Britain and the Soviet Union initialled a partial nuclear test ban at Spiridonovka Palace in Moscow. W Averell Harriman Lord Hailsham and Andrei Gromyko led the signing while Dean Rusk heads to Moscow to sign for the United States. The pact bans tests in the atmosphere outer space and under water but not underground tests. It requires Senate and Parliament approval and later formal signing at a Moscow foreign ministers conference.
Northside residents meet tonight to discuss Scottsdale's potential commercial airport at Thunderbird Field south of Bell Road and east of Scottsdale Road. Desert Estates Property Owners Association calls the gathering to decide actions if Scottsdale moves forward.
