Roy Crane's Buz Sawyer strips debut this week in the Daily Progress praising his technical accuracy. Sailors from seaman to admiral have written letters applauding the authentic air adventures and Navy developments depicted.
The city council at 8 p.m. will open bids on three projects totaling about 340000 dollars. Bids cover West Main Street Paving Improvement District Indian School Trunk Sewer Line and library furniture with work on the paving district expected to begin within 20 days and the sewer line about 100 days after.
Mesa City Manager James A. Petrie urged immediate action on a proposed four city sewage treatment system to avoid losing federal funds. He set deadlines of August 15 to sign the agreement and November 1 to secure funding or bond authorization, warning that Mesa Scottsdale and Tempe must start trunk sewer planning to finish by July 1964 when the 91st Avenue Phoenix plant opens.
Six members of the Dutch Youth Air Brigade and an escort officer toured Arizona for 11 days. They met Scottsdale officials at a luncheon, planned visits to Grand Canyon Williams Lake Air Force Bases and Indian tribes, and will stay with Civil Air Patrol cadets in the Phoenix Scottsdale area until Aug. 2.
A jury trial is set for Friday for George Harrington of the Arizona Country Club in Scottsdale and Richard P. Haynes of the Tucson Country Club after they posted $300 bond each on charges of being drunk and disorderly and simple battery. They pleaded not guilty. Police said they became abusive when asked to leave the French Quarter on January 29 by off duty Scottsdale police officer Richard O'Hara.

Police in New York arrested 112 demonstrators at two construction sites in the city as part of civil rights protests. About 88 were taken from the Brooklyn downstate medical center site, and 24 from a Queens housing project. CORE leader in Chicago, Sam Riley, hints at negotiations.

Two candidates from Lehi District have been named after sparse turnout at last night’s meeting, said Tribal Chairman Vernon Smith. Wide rail strike looms as Congress weighs Kennedy peace plan and ICC oversight of work rule changes.
Scottsdale officials forecast a 16 cent cut to the district property tax rate to $6.43 per $100 assessed valuation as state and county aid rise above estimates. The 1963 district valuation was $113.19 million, slightly under projections, with no tax increase expected.
The United States United Kingdom and the Soviet Union concluded talks sealing a multilateral nuclear test ban across space atmosphere and underwater. Officials said they would initial the pact Wednesday as East European leaders gather to align against China.
Scottsdale posts a 20.9 percent jump in assessed valuation from 1962 to this year, reaching 62,834,786 up from 51,965,831. Tempe, Mesa, Glendale and Phoenix also show gains with Phoenix up 6.6 percent to 567,377,858. County total rises seven percent to 899,727,907 from 840,429,369.
Under-secretary Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr told the Senate Commerce Committee that both North and South businessmen would welcome a congressional rights mandate. He said demonstrations and picketing harm business and urged legislation, noting voluntary desegregation helps but is insufficient. He cited Kennedy’s public accommodations bill as a clearer, quicker solution.
