Scottsdale considers flood control plan for Indian Bend wash
The effort began in 1962 when the Army Corps proposed a seven mile concrete ditch along Indian Bend Road to the Salt River Bed. A 1966 county bond for right of way failed 3 to 1, with Scottsdale council then hiring engineer John Erickson to study a locally financed scheme using retention basins north of the Arizona Canal and a grass lined channel. The Corps would review for 50 thousand dollars. If authorized, a public works bill could partially finance the project and an Indian Bend improvement district would fund the rest. the council urged supervisors to create a construction fund on January 16.
