Tax Loopholes Persist for Wealthy Earnings Above 200K
Rep. Henry S. Reuss cites Treasury figures showing 112 Americans with earnings between 200000 and 1 million plus paid no federal income tax last year despite the 1969 Tax Reform Act. He faults exemptions such as intangible oil drilling expenses and tax free municipal bonds, urging closing loopholes used by oilmen and wealthy taxpayers. Additionally, many wage earners may see less take home pay as Social Security taxes rise and withholding increases offset the income tax cut, with personal exemptions rising to 750 per dependent for 1972.
