Local girl Sandra Albinson, 23, disappeared yesterday from a Scottsdale laundromat at 141 Indian School Road. Police found her car with keys in the ignition and groceries in the back seat. She is described as 5 feet 8 inches, brown hair, blue eyes, living at 307 West Second Street. Call police with any information. Authorities alerted law enforcement statewide.
Soviet Premier Khrushchev warned that Russia would return rockets and bombers to Cuba to wage thermonuclear war if imperialists attack the island. He pledged aid to Cuba and other socialist states including China, Viet Nam, and the German Democratic Republic, and outlined Berlin peace aims, limited nuclear test inspections, and a four to five year disarmament timeline.
Newsboy Steven Huson aged 15 was injured seriously at Brownmoor Estates when he rode on top of an elevator car. Police and Montgomery Elevator Co officials said he fell two stories after his head wedged between the shaft and the cabinet as the car moved. Huson is a Scottsdale High School freshman and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in critical condition.
Mickey Mantle signed a $100,000 contract to play for the New York Yankees. Within an hour Roger Maris agreed to the same deal, ending his holdout after seeking a raise from the prior season’s $72,000. Maris had seen his home run total drop from 61 in 1961 to 33.
Scottsdale architects Joe Wong and Jack Cummings accused the Scottsdale School District of seeking lower fees for proposed school additions. They said the district would pay five percent instead of the six percent AIA recommendation, and that five percent was offered contingent on bond passage which failed.

The seven state walkout set for 6 p.m. PST faces a 10 day court order, with union leaders claiming the action may be vacated. The embargo on freight was lifted, and no further talks with mediator Frank ONeill were planned as lawyers clash over the legality of the restraining order.
