Millions of commuters faced travel chaos as the Northeast endured the worst storm in eight years. Airports in New York and Newark operated limited service while Kennedy reported a single departing runway and 82 storm deaths were confirmed across states.
Tenants at Tres Palms on S Orange St fight a rent rise from 120 to 440 dollars for one bedroom units. Landlord Mel Covington says the increase covers mortgage costs while tenants accuse promises of no winter or rent hikes. A road flare near Dr Jack McFarland’s truck sparked a gas leak but a Scottsdale patrolman prevented a larger fire. $15 damage reported.
Over the weekend officials reported a break in at Yavapai School. Thieves shattered a classroom window and removed two microphones valued at 50 dollars each, a snare drum, and other percussion instruments totaling 313 dollars. Police are investigating.
A Santa Fe Chicago to California passenger train derailed six miles west of Chillicothe Illinois injuring 17 of the 89 people aboard.

In Hinesville Texas a 19 year old Texas A&M student attempted to break into the Texas Penitentiary twice. He reached the top of a chain link fence on the second try before being ordered down and arrested. He recalled being in Bryan Texas prior. Dr George Beto said the student was released early this week after school officials were notified.
The United States and Cuba announced an understanding allowing passengers on hijacked U S airliners to be released and stay on the same aircraft to continue to their destination. The accord, negotiated through the Swiss embassy in Havana, marks a limited step toward deterring hijackings while not resolving the broader issue.
United Press International reports renewed artillery and machinegun exchanges between Israeli and Jordanian troops from the Sea of Galilee to Aqaba. Israel claims jet bombers attacked three times. no major casualties cited as skirmishes persist amid unrest. In Gaza, an Arab commandos grenade incident sparked Israeli caution.

Free electronic hearing tests will be given in Scottsdale on Wednesday February 12 at the Rodeway Inn of Scottsdale. Beltone equipment will assess hearing loss and show ear function diagrams. Mr Hendley and Mr Hunter will conduct tests from 10 4 AM to 3 PM with Beltone Hearing Service coordinating from Phoenix.
Police report a six year old Tempe girl sustained a minor injury after a rear impact while a pedestrian crossed at 2912 North Scottsdale Road at about 5 p.m. Monday. Stella Gibson 40 of Tempe had stopped to allow the child to cross when Lori Ronn 17 of Granite Reef Road collided with her car. Debbie Gibson was only slightly hurt.
