Triumph TR7 hits U S market at 5100 with bold aims
Mechanics for British Leyland designed a U.S. market sports car to undercut rivals like Datsun 260Z and Porsche 914. The Triumph TR7, priced at 5100 at port of entry, features a hardtop wedge shape, mid engine look, stylish dash and concealed lamps, with roomy seats and smooth ride. Drawbacks include a noisy four cylinder 90 horsepower engine and limited acceleration. Production near Liverpool aims at about 12000 units this year as a bold experiment by British Leyland.
