Man escapes uninjured after car dives into canal
William Longnecker Jr., 23, of 121 Ei La Mirada Phoenix, escaped injury when his car jumped a curb and plunged into the Arizona Canal at 68th Street and Indian School Road early today. Deputies said he climbed out as the vehicle sank after swerving to avoid a left-turning car while westbound on Indian School around 2 am.

Garbage fire at Paul Fuller residence fences Scottsdale
Scottsdale Rural Fire Department extinguished a fire in two garbage pails at the Paul Fuller residence 8661 E Monte Vista at 9 58 p m Tuesday. Firemen reported about 10 damage to a nearby fence and said the cause is unknown.

Police report a daytime break in at Sally A Morris residence 4700 North 68th Street where five rings two pendants and two watches valued over 500 each were stolen along with more than 1900 in jewelry and coins. Earlier thieves entered Meadows Bar 7723 McDowell Rd between 2 am and 4 50 am taking 122 in change and 23 in candy and cigars. Joe Pastorino says this is the third similar burglary in recent months.

Scottsdale man dies during visit to friends
Bural Kessens, 65, of 7204 E. Chaparral, collapsed at a home on 7316 E. Chaparral around 11:50 p.m. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Scottsdale Baptist Hospital. His wife said he had been taking nerve pills and had two or three drinks.
