The United States will reduce air force personnel by 3500 and dependents by 2000 in Japan, with 78 fighters bombers and transport planes withdrawn. The move is eight percent of U.S. forces in Japan and followed by base build-ups in Hawaii and Louisiana.
Scottsdale police sought two mink stores from Fashion Square parking lot theft. A 1960 Cadillac window was smashed to steal $4,500 in clothing including the two mink stores valued at $2,000 and $1,900 and several suits and dresses. Police noted broken glass collected and disposed of.
Mary BASIM aged 23 is charged in Scottsdale Justice Court with auto theft and child stealing after the Hancocks' home was ransacked and their sons aged 10 and 9 were missing for a short time. Bail set at 5000 dollars. Deputy county attorney Bill Anderson said arraignment date not yet set. Claude Irvin Franklin, 22, was arrested with her and released on his own recognizance after pleading innocent on a joy riding charge. his trial date not yet set. The missing boys were found unharmed.
Neighboring residents in the E Edgemont area report ongoing vandalism aimed at the Marvin Case family. Mrs Case notes $50 handed to the home in the past week, with total losses over $850 from broken windows, door repairs, car repainting, and a storeroom burglary. A yellow envelope with $30 appeared, a $10 bill was found on a car horn, and another $10 in the mailbox. The family relocated temporarily due to the attacks, and tools and a rifle were stolen in the break‑ins. The mother says no rocks have hit their home in two weeks and calls it wonderful.
Capt. Paul Blubaum a 17 year Phoenix Police Department veteran was named chief to succeed retiring Charles P. Thomas. City Manager Samuel Vickers named Blubaum 39 who will take the post effective Wednesday.
The 12 year old Scott Trailor, son of Delbert and his wife, was shot in the head while playing with his brother and another boy in the residence of Joe Haldi man Jr in the Phoenix Country Club area. Police say a pistol owned by Haldiman discharged as Jodie Haldi man Jr showed it to the youths. Trailor, president of Del Trailor Construction, lived at 27 North Country Club Drive Phoenix and had been building homes in Paradise Valley Scotts dale and Phoenix.
Albany, N Y Gov Nelson Rockefeller and Mrs Rockefeller announced the expected arrival of a child in early June 1964. The press secretary confirmed the news after months of rumors. This would be the fifth child for Mrs Rockefeller and adds to the governor's large blended family.

Jackson Horn, about 45, a seasonal farm laborer, was struck by a Buick at 5 15 p m in front of 6437 East Camelback Road. Adolph Kalina, 79, of Scottsdale, drove the car, says he saw Horn step in front of the vehicle traveling 35 to 40 mph. Horn died at the scene from severe head, chest and leg injuries. Police note his address is unknown and this was Scottsdale’s first fatality of the year, lifting the state toll to 508.

Washington lawmakers battled over foreign aid spending but agreed to include 3.3 million dollars for lawmakers’ own expenses in the same bill. The addition came from the House and Senate appropriations panels as part of the compromise foreign aid package.
