Israeli commando raid on Beirut airport described

A UPI report details an Israeli raid on Beirut airport with 45 mile helicopter flights from Israel. Commandos targeted airliners including four engined Boeings and Caravelles, using flares smoke and gunfire to clear civilians, then destroyed aircraft in about 11 minutes with no injuries to their unit.

Fire destroys motorcycle and damages home in Scottsdale

A cycle gas leak ignited a fire at 6914 El Osborn Rd Scottsdale destroying a motorcycle and damaging the house eaves. Owner John Rimer estimated $625 in damages. Fire reported 1:14 p.m. Sunday. Separate incidents include a Casa Blanca Inn apartment fire caused by an electrical short with about $75 damage and an apartment occupant listed as C. J. Lossard. A car fire at 68th St and McDowell caused about $75 damage to Larry Reed's vehicle. Fire at 1607 N 48th St due to a car carburator backfire. $75 damage. A malfunctioning water heater caused about $30 damage to an apartment owned by Gerald Cochran. occupant Robert Zabana. Fire reported 6 p.m. Saturday and a grass and fence fire at 6901 E Cheery Lynn Sunday afternoon with about $20 damage. Sherman Flake owner. Burglars Target Tvs As Weekend Thefts Rise

Police report a string of weekend burglaries with electronics and cash stolen. Community items include a color turn and cabinet valued over 1000 from Jan Narud, a $875 haul with a $500 TV and other gear from Fred Dibble, and a $110 TV from D J Sebern. A cash loss of $50 was taken from Richard Pickle’s home. Entry is under investigation with signs of forced doors and windows.

Social Security tax rate rising to 4.8 percent

Social Security taxes will rise from 4.4 percent to 4.8 percent of earnings, with the first 7,800 dollars of annual income still subject to tax. The higher rate adds about 60 cents per week for someone earning 7,800 dollars or more, and 40 cents more for a 100 dollar weekly wage.

Scottsdale Board of Adjustments Sets Special Hearing

The Scottsdale Board of Adjustments will meet in the council chambers for a special hearing Thursday. The board, having held its regular monthly meeting, will hear two requests for variances to the zoning ordinance regarding Paradise Valley Plaza at the southeast corner of Scottsdale and Shea Boulevard. The proposed buildings would extend to the rear property line of four commercial lots.

Three Car Crashes Injure Several in Scottsdale Area

Scottsdale police reported three separate weekend crashes injuring multiple people. Steve Hudson, 18, of Tempe was hospitalized in good condition after his eastbound car failed to yield at Bellview and 68th, colliding with a parked car. Other injuries occurred on Scottsdale Road near Indian School Road when two vehicles, including one driven by Marie Tice, collided. Tice was cited for driving while intoxicated and failure to control.
