The Church of the Nazarene reports a year of expansion with world membership rising to 464,962 an increase of 11,154 since 1967. The denomination built 24 churches in the United States and 49 overseas, with each member giving an average annual church gift of 203.02 dollars.
Valley Presbyterian in Scottsdale hosts the Project for the Advancement of Church Education PACE aimed at turning housewives and laymen into effective church school teachers. Startups began last March with classrooms and electronic gear funded by a 26 000 dollar Lilly Endowment grant and 36 000 dollar matching grant from United Presbyterian Board of Christian Education plus 36 000 from an anonymous donor. Locke Bowman leads the project scheduled to run through March 1970 and emphasizes two teaching methods for volunteers.
Scottsdale Congregational United Church of Christ will host Rev Kenneth Widney this Sunday to speak on The New Wineskins for 1969 at 9:30 and 11. Church of the Good Shepherd in Cave Creek Carefree opens with Bishop Harte and Rev Maitland presiding, while a Singletarians youth group plans a party at 8 p.m. at 2300 McClintock Dr Tempe. A Pace church school training program at Valley Presbyterian welcomes all denominations with multiple teaching methods and a January course start.
