Scottsdale residents must register by 5 p.m. Monday to vote in the Feb. 17 city primary. At least 18 years old and 50 days residency required. Re-registration needed if moving, changing name or party, or did not vote in the last general election. Register at City Hall City Clerk's office.
Terrorists who seized the Vienna headquarters of the world oil cartel surrendered to Algerian authorities today after releasing in Libya and Algeria their last hostages including Saudi Arabia’s oil minister and Iran’s interior minister.
In eastern Lebanon, Lebanese forces manning buffer zones between Zahlah and nearby Moslem villages repelled repeated night attempts to encircle the Christian town. In Washington, Kissinger said the United States would not object to a Marxist faction ruling Angola if the Soviet Union and Cuba withdraw their massive expeditionary backing.
Newark New Jersey magistrate extended the FBI search warrant to December 29 allowing excavation of a dump where mob victims including former Teamsters Union President James R. Hoffa may be buried. U S Atty Jonathan L Goldstein said the warrant issued December 2 was extended for 10 days by U S Magistrate William J Hunt.
The federal government starts paying subsidies to presidential hopefuls after the Supreme Court declined to block the new campaign financing system. The court's 4 to 4 vote permitted the program to commence.
President Ford will ski in Vail without his regular instructor Dennis C. Hoeger who is taking a Christmas vacation in Denver. Hoeger has guided the Ford family for five years and taught Ford last year, leaving Washington to depart for the trip.
President Ford vetoed a bill expanding construction union picketing rights, pleasing GOP conservatives but risking labor secretary fallout. He said the measure would provoke more chaos in an already troubled industry and noted his past endorsement of the proposal.

Scottsdale police end a year long lease of three Bricklin patrol cars. With Bricklin's financial collapse the city retrieves the vehicles and receives about $511 for labor. Cars stripped of insignia and police equipment as General Vehicle Inc. enters receivership.
More than 100 properties in Scottsdale may be sold at public auction at 10 a.m. January 9 at City Hall for delinquent sewer, water, street, right of way and parking assessments. Owners have one year to redeem by paying the assessment plus penalties. four city notification attempts are made.
