NIH links prolonged QT heart interval to crib death
NIH researchers led by Drs Maron Clark Goldstein Epstein found a prolonged QT interval in 26 percent of parents who lost an infant to SIDS and in 39 percent of surviving children. A 10 month old saved from crib death also showed the interval. They caution that this suggests possible hereditary factors but does not prove causation. Further studies are underway.

Tucson workers object to pay freeze proposal
Union leaders and Tucson city employees challenged a civil service commission plan that would grant no pay raises next year. The hearing before Mayor Lewis Murphy marked the second step in setting salaries as the city faces a 6.7 million deficit and proposed phased cost of living increases for lower and higher paid staff. The AFSCME urged a 2 percent raise for its members.
