Vaccine May Provide Contraception, Researchers Say
Dr. Victor D. Vacquier and students report a protein on sea urchin and oyster sperm surfaces used to bind to egg cells. They suggest potential non hormonal contraception by immunizing women against this sperm protein or its egg receptor bindin, with immunity fading over time and options for periodic boosters. A male pill to block bindin synthesis is another possibility.
