Reservists Near End Of Berlin Crisis Deployment

Washington reports all Army reservists called to active duty during the Berlin crisis are expected to be released by June 30, 1962. Army plans also aim to replace two National Guard divisions with two regular divisions as part of a broader shift to a larger regular force.

Miracle Of Roses Pageant Sunday Colorful Affair

The ninth annual Miracle of the Roses pageant will be staged Sunday in Scottsdale with a 3 p.m. start at First Street and Brown. Activities include Indian and Mexican dances, a 3:30 p.m. parade, 4:30 p.m. show at Scottsdale High School, a 5:30 p.m. candlelit procession, 6:15 p.m. benediction, and 7:38 p.m. performance. The event re enacts Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe with participation from ASU, local clergy, and Phoenix figures. The program is produced by Paul Coze with Mary Girard Tierney as choreographer and Val Rosing directing.

New Eastside residents face delayed garbage charges

Annexed area on December 5 will not be billed by the city for December pickup. Residents will owe Garbage Service Company later, with February bills covering January city service. A $1.65 difference favors the city option for the month, and a 9 cent credit is noted for January bills. County sewer rate is $3.50 versus city residents at $2.50.

Rusk backs UN role in Congo fighting

At a news conference Secretary Rusk defended UN military actions against Katangese forces and snipers to stabilize the Congo. He said the U N must not be blocked from its mandate and that weapons requests are limited to transport planes. The U S backs Thant's move to restore freedom of movement and insists cease fire must be secured before talks.

Kennedy outlines eight New Frontier goals at AFL CIO meeting

President Kennedy used a Miami Beach AFL CIO address to map eight core New Frontier priorities for the next Congress. He urged permanent unemployment compensation, expanded medical care under Social Security, federal aid for school construction and teacher pay, worker retraining, civil rights focus, plant investment tax credits, standby public works authority, and modernization of reciprocal trade to aid national competitiveness.

Tall Blond Youth Robs Local Market For 145 Dollars

A tall blond man about six foot two inches and 185 pounds held up a 7 11 Market at 414 N Scottsdale Rd early today. He demanded all money from the cash register and fled with 145 dollars in a large bag. Two witnesses saw a brown white 1955 or 1956 Dodge flee the scene and reported the license plate.

Weather Outlook For Southeastern Arizona Weekend Showers

Light showers are forecast for Southeastern Arizona tonight and Saturday with activity advancing to the northeast. A weak system from New Mexico will clear the state by late Sunday, bringing cooler temperatures about 6 to 14 degrees below normal. Snow level above 5,000 feet with scattered rainfall and snow totals reported in several cities.
