Santa fears and dreams clash in holiday visits
Child psychologist David Elkind warns three and four year olds often fear Santa more than any other stranger. He advises parents to prep children before store visits and to avoid forcing sitings, noting belief in Santa remains strong before age five. He also suggests letting kids lead questions and comforting them, while highlighting a preference for women in Santa roles. A second note outlines NYU opening a center to educate and train young adults with severe learning disabilities, led by Dr. Judith Ehré Kranes who started an early program in 1966 to aid an overlooked minority.
