James Perry Cox 78 longtime Phoenix resident and VFW member died Monday at home. Services held today at Paradise Chapel with VFW funeral detail. burial Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include grandson Phillip Waddell and granddaughter Debbara Davenport. Vic's Quality Meat owner Victor Kovack 54 died today of cancer at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Waukegan, Ill., he moved to Scottsdale 16 years ago. Survived by wife Mildred daughter Betsy Meeker and two brothers. Arrangements by Hansen Mortuary.

Menk chairs the session as Burlington Northern Railroad head and BSA vice president while Larry E. Simpson, 17, of Waverly Tennessee, serves as president of the national Explorer group.
Nearly four thousand dollars were given to several Scottsdale area groups during the Scottsdale Jaycees annual Donation Night. The donations come from Parada del Sol profits and include over one thousand for scholarships and a student loan fund at Scottsdale Community College. Recipients include the Scottsdale Boys Club and Vista del Camino Youth Projects, plus funds to local trust accounts for two children's medical bills.
The seismological institute in Uppsala reported an earthquake centered in the Kurile Islands off Asia’s northeast coast. Professor Markus Baath said the event registered 6.7 on the Richter Scale.
