The Senate Finance Committee voted to add a 0.5 cent per gallon gas tax to fund energy conservation tax breaks for homeowners and heat pumps solar and geothermal systems. The plan would raise the federal gasoline levy to 4.5 cents annually about 500 million dollars.
Adamson 32 pleaded no contest to a February 1975 hotel fraud charge at the Scottsdale Sheraton Inn and Villas case in Paradise Valley. He was fined 330 dollars and faces a murder trial in Maricopa County for the June 2 car bombing of reporter Don Bolles.
The Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Tribe filed suit alleging the Bureau of Reclamation violated NEPA by not assessing environmental impacts of the Central Arizona Project siphon under the Salt River. FBI confirmed the event and Leitch is a former Chessie employee. President Ford proclaimed today as Women’s Equality Day urging states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
The Semte approved an amendment by Sen Paul Fannin to the Education Amendment Bill of 1976. It would exempt father son and mother daughter events and Boys and Girls State programs from Title 9 compliance which bans sex discrimination in federally funded programs.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sandra O Connor voids five month petition deadline as conflicting with the Arizona Constitution which allows four months. The ruling favors Arizonans for Safe Energy and challenges Ari zona Public Service Co. involvement in Proposition 200 petitions for a November ballot measure on nuclear facility approval. APS, manager of Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Plant near Buckeye, faces a separate suit alleging insufficient signatures on the petitions. Trial on signature validity begins soon.

At an organizational meeting the Scottsdale School District formed a middle school committee. Three parents from each of five schools named 15 members to study philosophy, enroll about 750 students, and select a site. Subcommittees will list sixth and seventh graders and assess facilities at Kachina Ingleside Tavan Kaibab Hopi with meetings set biweekly.
Scottsdale will upgrade seven intersections with a $219,000 project. Mast arm signals replace span wires at several sites including Scottsdale Road and Gold Dust Avenue and 64th Street and Shea Boulevard. Pedestrian lights and left turn arrows will be added as work proceeds over the coming weeks and into next year.

He clarifies his dealings were limited to carpet sales and a few bid-related roles, not payroll work for the firm. He notes he supported a bid process for Chaparral High School and contests legal opinions favoring negotiation over bidding.
