Washington reports the Navy will cut personnel by 72000 and deactivate two anti submarine air carriers as part of a 3 billion economy plan. Strength would drop from 864000 to about 750000 with 16 large attack carriers remaining in operation.

Short circuit blamed for home fire and vehicle blaze
Firemen blamed a short circuited lamp for a bedroom fire at 2719 N Entrada causing about 156 dollars damage. The lamp allegedly lit a desk and curtains, blistered a wall, and was put out with a dry extinguisher and a gallon of water. A separate incident burned a cooler motor at 8308 E Edgemont, with smoke filling the home. A Cadillac overflow caused 200 dollars damage to William Grate’s 1987 car at 7302 E Bonita. Firefighters also handled a brush fire at 76th Street east of Moreland around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
