Indians off reservations face harsher fate in cities

Arizona official Stan Worner told a federal meeting that urban and migrant Indians in the Phoenix area number about 12 000 and face neglect, shunning by social services, and unique needs not met by programs. Defense cuts reduce US armed forces by 100000

Defense Secretary Melvin Laird announced cuts totaling 100000 uniformed personnel along with 50000 civilian jobs and 100 ships mothballed. He said the reductions will weaken readiness though aimed at saving at least $5 billion in defense appropriations. Laird emphasized the need to inform the public about Soviet growth and noted Vietnam activity remains a concern.

Appeals court reinstates Dr Fridena in Arizona osteopathic group

The Arizona Court of Appeals, in a 2 to 1 decision, upheld rein statement of Dr Darttel Fridena to the state Osteopathic Medical Association and to Phoenix General Hospital staff. The ruling found lack of proper notice for a Sept 22, 1965 hearing and cited involvement of Call in a dispute. Fridena faces a separate hearing in Newport Beach California over alleged threats and obstruction at Phoenix Community Hospital.

Stans Deli Cash Register Stolen Overnight

Police report a cash register containing 275 dollars was stolen from Stan's Deli at 34 North Old Scottsdale Road between 5 p m Tuesday and 7 50 am Wednesday. No suspects named. Local area crime inquiry ongoing.

Burglars Steal Cash From Coiffures International and Store Box

Police report burglars pried a rear window of the Coiffures International shop at 120 W. 5th Ave and stole about $120, plus changes from a soda machine. They also grabbed a $650 machine and $275 from a drawer after entering between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Dow Jones indexes rose with gains across industrials, rails, utilities, and stocks.

U.S. forces clash with Communists amid rising casualties

In Cambodia near Tay Ninh City and across the northern Coastal plains U.S. troops clashed with North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces. More than 300 enemy dead were reported this week while U.S. losses rose to 244 killed, eight missing, and 39 wounded in a four hour battle. The Mekong Delta saw Viet Cong attacks on a sleeping camp leaving eight South Vietnamese soldiers dead.

Fuel line leak blamed in blaze roadside incidents

Police reported a two Phoenix women injured when their car struck a canal bank on Lafayette near 66th Street around 2 35 a m. Carolyn Pennell 22 and Jane Stryker 23 treated and released. A motorcycle ran off Scottsdale Road and another driver was cited after a two car crash at Scottsdale and Indian School Roads. Firemen blamed a leaking fuel line for a car fire at 5014 Carhill with 150 damage. Brush and trash bin fires were reported nearby.

Goldberg suit seeks $8 million over bank stock deal

In Phoenix UPI reports Philip J. Goldberg files an $8 million lawsuit against Pioneer Bank officers and attorneys alleging conspiracy and misrepresentation in a proposed $500,000 stock purchase. He claims promises of board membership and 100 percent financing were broken and an extra $100,000 of stock was paid but not delivered.

Mrs Margaret Jane Kucher 73 died Wednesday at 71 Mountain Shadows West. A Jersey City native, she came here seven years ago from Dearborn Michigan.
