Mild Soviet Note Offers Parley
The Soviet Union issued notes to the United States Britain and France offering to negotiate a German peace treaty. If negotiations fail the USSR would sign a separate peace with East Germany. Plane hijacker sought life in Castro Cuba after theft
Leon Bearden hijacked a $5 million Continental 707 to flee U S authorities and reach Cuba with his 16 year old son Cody. Border Patrol officer Leonard Gilman, who helped subdue Bearden, testified that Bearden planned to go to Cuba and sell the aircraft. Bearden faced federal kidnapping and aircraft theft charges with bond set at $100,000 each as FBI and immigration agents handled the case in El Paso.
