Steel price hikes follow new labor pact to fund contract

UPI reports U S Steel and major producers announced an average 8 percent rise on most products after a three year contract with the USW. The move drew White House rebuke and a call from Senate Leader Mansfield for a wage price freeze as other firms matched increases. The contract raises hourly wages by 1.13 dollars over three years, boosting labor costs and industry inflation concerns.

City board agendas list three design reviews and site plans

The Design Review Board and Site Plan Committee each have three cases this week. Design Board hearings cover three offsite buildings at Main and Hinton, 2980 N 67th Place, and Third Ave and Marshall Way. Site Plan Committee will consider a retail store east of 68th Street and Thomas Road, a golf cart port for Ville Monterey Country Club, and an office building at Third and Marshall, with a 4 p.m. Wednesday meeting.

Pollution bonds urged for pollution control financing

State Treasurer Ernest Garfield proposed allowing industries to issue municipal type bonds to fund pollution control equipment. The bonds would offer tax exempt income to buyers and lower interest costs for funding controls, a savings passed to consumers through industrial product prices.

Apollo 15 crew rests after lunar sample haul and mooncar study

Apollo 15 astronauts David Scott Alfred Worden and James Irwin rested eight to nine hours after collecting 228.7 pounds of lunar samples in Hadley Rille. They confirm the eight foot deep core sample while Endeavour continues lunar mapping and a small satellite will be left in lunar orbit for magnetic studies before returning home.

Lockheed Vote Keeps Job Hope Alive For Tristar

The Senate narrowly approved a plan to back 250 million in Lockheed loans to finish the Tristar jetliner, saving about 60 000 jobs. Motorola wins Navy contract for six ship terminals

The U S Navy awarded Motorola's Government Electronics Division in Scottsdale a 750 000 contract to develop six engineering test and service test ship terminals for the Fleet Broadcast Communications System. Scottsdale Boys Host Mini Carnival For Muscular Dystrophy

Darryl Dorris and Peter Abele two fourth graders organize a carnival to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Fund in cooperation with OTV. The event at 8511 E Virginia runs 1 to 3 p.m. featuring games prizes popcorn candy and clowns with the Parks and Recreation Funmobile. Admission is free but each feature costs a nickel.
