State workers wage and benefit package okayed
The House and Senate appropriations committees approved a $22 million wage and benefit plan for about 22 000 state employees including 10 000 university workers. The package caps at 22 million, excludes those earning over 40 000, and offers 2–8 percent raises by grade with health and disability coverages largely paid by the state. Republicans split, arguing the total cost should not exceed 20 million despite surpluses.
