Diptheria Claims First County Death Of 1969 Girl
Deborah Halverson aged 6 died at St. Josephs Hospital marking Maricopa County first diptheria death this year. Receiving stolen vehicle charged in Scottsdale arrest
A 23-year-old Scottsdale man, Robert David Reeves, was arrested on charges of receiving a stolen vehicle and altering serial number plates. Police said he possessed a 1969 Plymouth stolen from Jack Johnson Plymouth on Feb 28 and recovered with a mismatched license plate and serial number. Reeves allegedly bought a wrecked 1968 Plymouth from a Phoenix yard, original Kingman registration, identifying both cars by hidden serials.

Evacuation Ordered After Freight Train Derailment
A Penn Central freight train derailed over three miles near East Germantown Indiana causing explosions and a fire in tanker cars carrying butyl acetate vinyl chloride petroleum gasoline and chlorine. Eight or nine cars burned prompting state police to evacuate the town of several hundred residents as toxic fumes feared. Police described the scene as worse than a 1968 Dunreith derailment on the same line.
