McCarthy Wins Wisconsin Democratic Primary Big Win
UPI reports Sen Eugene McCarthy captured 57 percent in Wisconsin with 99 percent of precincts counted, defeating the late Johnson in the Democratic race and heading toward potential clashes with Sen Robert F. Kennedy. Republican frontrunner Richard Nixon collected 80 percent, with Ronald Reagan in second place on the ballot. Nixon won all 59 or 80 of Wisconsin delegates, while McCarthy claimed 49 of 59 Democratic delegates. Johnson carried 8 Democratic delegates, and local party members hold separate votes at the convention. McCarthy vowed to continue toward November victory.
