Scarsdale High Sets Senior Work Day to Aid Exchange Student

Scarsdale High School plans a Senior Class Work Day on October 8 to raise 650 dollars for an American Field Service exchange student from Germany. All twelfth graders will participate with chairmanship by Sheila Tynan and Peter Elting. Motorcycle Patrolmen Proposed for Fox Meadow Budget

Harry G. Liese president of the Fox Meadow Association called for motorcycle patrolmen to curb speeding on Fox Meadow streets and Pad dington Rd. He asked the board to consider funding in next year’s budget, with Mayor Scott referring the matter to public safety and finance committees.

Scarsdale Bowl Committee Named By Mr Pirnie

Malcolm Pirnie announces the 1956 Scarsdale Bowl committee with John S. Starkweather as vice chairman and Robert M. Irish as secretary treasurer. The 12 members include Alley, Butcher, Driscoll, Finsterbusch, Gates, Johnston, Krantz, Neale, Nicholson, Scott, Whittemore, Williamson, and Zeltner. The Bowl honors a distinguished citizen for community service, a tradition begun in 1943 in memory of George B. Clifton.

Removal from Map of Shawnee Road Still Discussed

After a public hearing the Vil lage Board debated removing Shawnee Road between Butler and Chesterfield Rds from the official map. The board postponed a decision in executive session to allow further study and ordered police to set temporary barriers at Fox Meadow School lots to aid safe crossing to the nature park. Fox Meadow Association backed the move citing safety needs.

Coaching Course At Scarsdale Adult School

A practical coaching course offered by Scarsdale Adult School with the Recreation Dept. begins Tuesday evenings in the high school cafeteria. Beach Carpenter Dies on Tuesday After Long Illness

Scarsdale mourns former mayor H Beach Carpenter of Popham Hall who died early Tuesday at White Plains Hospital after a long illness at age 63. Born in Rockford Illinois he studied at the University of Michigan and Columbia Law School before serving in World War I and joining the U S Senate Legislative Counsel. He later moved to New York joining The American Sugar Refining Co law department.

The Scarsdale Public Library Children’s Department plans weekly story hours and picture book hours. Picture book hour starts Saturday October 8 at 10 30 for ages three to six. Paintings by Mrs Brewster Presented to Scarsdale Woman's Club

Four oil paintings by the late Anna Richards Brewster will debut at a Scarsdale Woman's Club reception led by president Mrs. Ray C. Tuttle. The works span Sidi bou Saïc Tunisia Rapallo Italy Camel's Hump Vermont and Rhode Island scenes plus a water color for the president's office.
