After a public hearing the Vil lage Board debated removing Shawnee Road between Butler and Chesterfield Rds from the official map. The board postponed a decision in executive session to allow further study and ordered police to set temporary barriers at Fox Meadow School lots to aid safe crossing to the nature park. Fox Meadow Association backed the move citing safety needs.

Scarsdale mourns former mayor H Beach Carpenter of Popham Hall who died early Tuesday at White Plains Hospital after a long illness at age 63. Born in Rockford Illinois he studied at the University of Michigan and Columbia Law School before serving in World War I and joining the U S Senate Legislative Counsel. He later moved to New York joining The American Sugar Refining Co law department.
