Phil Steckler Jr. defeated Dubraska 6-1 6-2 to win the county men’s singles after eliminating Bob Smith 6-2 6-2 in the semifinals. Scarsdale mourns civic leader George B. Clifton who died at 75 Sunday night at Northern Westchester Hospital. A lifelong resident of 230 Boulevard and Pound Ridge, Clifton served as village trustee three terms and held roles with The Town Club since 1928, including president in 1930 and 1931. he guided fire and water departments and was a long time governor and treasurer.

John W. De Wolf of Bell Rd has been named to the board of directors of the Scarsdale Community Fund and Council Inc to fill the unexpired term of Alfred P. Slaner of Normandy Lane through March 1958.
