Dems Release Resolution Condemns Daley at Chicago Convention

The Scarsdale Democratic Town Committee passed a resolution condemning Mayor Richard Daley and Chicago police for actions at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. It cites police brutality and the denial of freedom of assembly, urging leadership to protect peaceful protest. Copies were sent to Vice President Humphrey and party officials.

Heistand To Speak At Village Club Scarsdale

Dr Dale Heistand professor of business at Columbia will address the Village Club of Scarsdale on September 30 at 1 15 pm in Dyckman Hall. The talk titled Suburban Responsibilities Suburban Abilities discusses urban suburban challenges and opportunities and Heistand cites his work on manpower resources and economic growth. Heistand has consulted for federal agencies and coauthored works on government and minority employment.

Westchester Women Launch Gun Control Petition Drive

The Women’s Division of the Westchester County Democratic Committee released a mode petition drive to back gun control with over 4000 signatures. Petitions totaling 200 feet were sent to Senator Joseph Tydings, urging immediate legislation on firearm sales and possession in memory of public figures and thousands of annual firearm deaths.

Emery to Visit South American Schools

Superintendent Dr. Donald G. Emery will join a team of superintendents to evaluate South American education ties for two weeks later this month. The study, arranged by the State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, will review potential expansion of the Westchester and Scarsdale links with five Brazilian schools including Sao Paulo American School. Team members include Dr. Thomas Russo and Dr. Philip Sanborn. Dr. Fred Roth will supervise the district operation during Emery’s Brazil service.

Two Burglaries Reported Here in Searsdale

Police report two burglaries in the Quaker Ridge area of Searsdale on Thursday September 12. Ruby Green at 6 Meadow Road and Lyford Green at 2 Herkimer Road were targeted. entry came via broken rear window and window latch tampering as homes were unoccupied. A portable TV was taken from the Green residence. other stolen items await listing.

United Fund Names Volunteers to Lead Campaign Effort

The 1968 United Fund campaign in Scarsdale aims for a record $260,043 with Robert M. James unveiling four new volunteer leaders Oscar Sachs Mrs John G Kirk John McVoy and Mrs Richard E Fletcher. They will recruit 850 volunteers for a house to house canvass beginning October 13 to support 22 agencies in Scarsdale and Central Westchester.
