Superintendent Underhill reports 37 of 41 exams passed by Scarsdale High School students with a 93 percent success rate in 1929 and an average mark near 75. Four students scored over 90 and 15 over 80, including a perfect 100 in Mathematics A and 98 in Physics.
R R Hunter chairman of the board of appeals approved the plans for the New York Telephone Company's building on the Post Road south of Wayside Lane. Zoning Board action June 26 followed a public hearing. objections were withdrawn after plan changes cut height by 1 ft 7 in and added terracing. A three foot grill, stone steps, and landscaping will surround the structure now.
The foundation of the new water tower on Garden Road has been finished and the iron work and construction of the tank will start shortly. The tank, with a 1,700,000 gallon capacity, will serve as Scarsdale's reserve water supply.
Lloyd B. Wilson, longtime Bell System employee and Scarsdale resident, was elected president of the four Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Companies serving the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia at the August board meeting. He succeeds the late Alfred Berry after a career beginning as a night operator in 1899 in Plattsmouth Nebraska.
The Metropolitan Archery Association hosts an open fall tournament at Scarsdale high school on September 28 and 29. Officials include president William Cravath White and secretary N Courtney Owen. entry deadline September 23. Prizes awarded for each event and overall high score with separate junior and gender divisions.
Open letters and committee discussions surface as Greenburgh School Districts 6 and 7 revisit the high school question. Former Citizens Union leader Seeber W. Bullock argues for merger with No. 7 while No. 6 weighs a standalone high school option amid a study by a eleven member panel and experts from Teachers College.
Scarsdale voters will see polls open next Tuesday September 17 from noon to nine at village hall or Fenimore Road firehouse for fall primaries. The Trust Company of Scarsdale changes its name to Caleb Heathcote Trust Company. the board approved the rename, subject to state banking supervision. Charles W. Anderson named treasurer. he is a former Federal Reserve Bank examiner with WWI service and a Grove City College graduate. Opening is expected around early October.
The Westchester Conservatory of Music began fall sessions with full teaching time booked and continued registrations this week. Director Nicolai Mednikkoff expects a successful first winter. Harold Bauer’s judging visit was postponed to late September. scholarships trials postponed and applicants urged to apply at 990 Post Road.
The Westchester Lighting Company offered to remove overhead lines on Belmoy Road and bury them underground with resident help. Reconstruction is estimated at 32000 dollars, residents would pay 12000, and the company will reimburse up to 3000 dollars to owners who build an apartment house of forty units or more until the advance is recouped. Residents have previously agreed to share costs to improve rental appeal.
The Scarsdale Woman's Club membership committee will hold its first fall meeting next Friday September 20. Applications proposed by a member and endorsed by two others must be received at the club office before September 19.
The Republican Town Committee of Scarsdale calls enrolled GOP voters to a caucus at Village Hall two weeks from tonight on September 27 at 8:30 p.m. Nominated officials include supervisor, town clerk, two justices of the peace, receiver of taxes, two assessors, five constables, and a school director for the November general election. Robert E. Christie Jr. serves as committee chairman.
The Scarsdale Woman’s Club restaurant will resume dinner service next Thursday evening September 19 under new management. Emil P. Johnson of Mount Vernon has taken charge on concession, bringing prior experience from Germany’s Bahnhof Hotel and Schloß Hotel and later New York catering firms.
The Scarsdale water department reports a record daily usage of two and a half million gallons last week, well above the normal one million gallons per day. The spike hit during a period of hot weather and included increased residential and commercial demand.

The Scarsdale fire department defeated the policemen 10 to 8 on Butler Field to end the series. Firemen were outhit 15 to 10, leading until the sixth when the police scored six earned runs to pull ahead 8 to 7. In the eighth, three runs sealed the firemen victory. two weeks earlier the firemen had won 17 to 7.
A fashion show and tea will be held in October at the Woman's Club organized by the Harwood Gown Shop. Proceeds go to the Committee of 100. Models will be selected from the Woman's Club junior and senior members with Mrs. Clifford Duval Couch Jr. heading the show committee.
Public hearing set for September 10 on the rezoning of Joseph Tooker’s Heathcote Station property along Weaver Street in Scarsdale was postponed to September 24 due to illness in Tooker’s family.
Kid Chicago Ronaldo Lambert, alias Kid Chicago, confessed holder of a criminal record, was picked up in Scarsdale Tuesday night. Judge Charles M. Carter ordered a police court hearing after receiving DOJ investigation bureau information showing he was not wanted for any crime. Lambert was released and headed toward the Post Road to New York.
Village board discussed timing for the Post Road repair with village engineer Arthur Boniface reporting county attorney action and bids to be advertised soon. Trustees debated winter construction and passed a resolution to consider weather factors to avoid rushing the project.
The Fox Meadow Tennis Club will host the third annual Men’s and Women’s Singles Tournament on September 21 and 22 at Wayside Lane. Entries close September 18. Committee heads W R Brent and Arthur McCain plan no match postponements to keep semis and finals on schedule.
Scarsdale postmaster Clarence P. Varian announced mail will be collected from village boxes on Sunday and holiday afternoons. Mail gathered then will depart Scarsdale on the evening train. Ten new letter boxes are in place, with twice daily collections from these boxes.
