Dorothy Lowenstein Wins Fenway Golf Tourneys
Dorothy Lowenstein of 12 Cooper Road won the Fenway Country Club golf championship after 36 holes last Saturday. Her runner up was Rose Roth of New Rochelle. She led at the end of 18 holes and then topped two other club events on Sunday. She won the women’s three ball driving event with 664 yards and placed second in the putting contest.

Burial Service Planned For PFC William Haas
Private First Class William Henry Haas nineteen year old son of Mr and Mrs Henry C Haas of 181 Lyons Road will lie in state at Bennett's Funeral Home on Garth Road from 1 pm today with burial tomorrow at 2 pm in Woodlawn Cemetery. Haas was killed in action with the infantry in France on November 16 1944 after graduating Scarsdale High School in 1943 and studying electrical engineering at Pratt Institute before entering the Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart and a Roosevelt signed citation posthumously.

More Accidents Reported This Summer Than Last
A report shows twenty-two accidents in Scarsdale during June to August this year, versus sixteen in the same period last year. Yearly totals reach fifty four injuries twenty eight year to date, with ten residents and one junior driver involved. Five pedestrians were hurt and the peak accident time remains noon to midnight as dry pavement and clear or cloudy skies prevailed.

Penelope Wolcott Returns From International Scout Encampment
Miss Penelope Wolcott daughter of Mr and Mrs Wallace Wolcott of Old Army Road returned last Saturday September 4 aboard the USS Marine Jumper from Switzerland where she and Miss Ann Elizabeth Furst of Bedford Indiana represented the Girl Scouts at the international encampment of girl scouts and guides. The trio spent weeks in England and Paris visiting universities hostels and families before traveling to Adelboden for the three weeks program at Our Chalet. They visited Interlaken Lucerne Zermatt and Geneva and took the Youngfrau trip. Mrs Wolcott plans to join in New York tomorrow.

Seven Year Old Lad Killed by Rifle Shot on Lake Champlain
J David Mead Jr seven year old son of Mr and Mrs J D Mead of 6 Overhill Road was shot and killed at Westport on Lake Champlain while visiting the Suters summer home. The shot came from a rifle in the hands of eleven year old William Kenneth Linson of Riverdale across a bay about 600 feet away. The Mead family urges parental supervision to keep children from handling guns. Funeral services for David were held Saturday afternoon at the Universal Chapel in New York.
