Ground was broken at Hitchcock Memorial Church Greenacres on Saturday August 28 for the minister Reverend George Hugh Smyth parsonage. The contract went to Emerson W Adams of White Plains and completion is expected by holiday time pending subscriptions to the building fund.
Four hundred women gathered near Pennsylvania Station to welcome Mrs. Catt in New York after the suffrage win. They marched to the Waldorf with banners as Miss Mary Garrett Hay spoke. Mrs. Catt recounted Tennessee battles and urged women to exercise their new right with confidence.
Yonkers and Mount Vernon captured principal events at the Empire Race Track last Saturday afternoon. Arthur J. Carpenter of the White Plains police department beat Charles Spiess of the Elmsford fire department by 20 seconds in a motorcycle race. Miss Bramwell delighted the crowd with looping the loop and other stunts.

The August 30 board meeting elected officers: Russell president Crane clerk Ryan health officer Both treasurer. Committees named for Teachers, Health, Requisitions, Buildings, Playgrounds, and Attendance. They postponed the census until all Scarsdale residents return home and pushed football and basketball field work and general improvements.
The Catholic Bazaar at the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary drew strong community support, clearing about three thousand dollars over several evenings. Father Rourke praised Catholic and non Catholic residents for the event’s success, with Mrs. F H Bethell and Mr. Will Stevens receiving notable recognition for leadership and behind the scenes work.
The Village Play Ground opens on weekdays weather permitting from 9 30 to 11 30 A M and 2 o clock to 5 30 P M. All are welcome.
All women of Scarsdale who are qualified voters are urged to attend a pre primary meeting next Friday September 10 at 3 oclock at the Woman s Club The Civics Section calls the meeting in the absence of the Civics chairman Mrs F H Bethell will preside Attendees will discuss primaries and their uses and receive a list of candidates with a survey of their records The event is non partisan and open to voting women whether or not they are club members.
Arrangements are complete for Valhalla Neurological Hospital the first U S institution for exclusive study and treatment of brain diseases. The King Solomon Hospital Association starts the facility in Valhalla Westchester aiming to prevent insanity and mental illness with integrated surgical and neurological care. Governors and prominent New York physicians join the advisory board and medical executive committee led by Dr Julius Broder with free lab work and patient care.
A U S athletes from across Westchester County enter a five mile race at Rye on Labor Day. The event, part of Community Day, marks the second annual race with cups donated by Apawamis Golf Club American Yacht Club Manussing Island Club Green meadow Country Club and John Meek Bowman head of Pershing Square and Biltmore. Prizes total over five hundred dollars. George J. Werner county board chair and Lieut. Colonel J Mayhew Wainwright assist in organizing the meet.
Dr. C W Saleeby, British eugenist and anti alcohol delegate, tours New York State under the Anti-Saloon League. He will lecture September 12 at Mohegan Lake School Chapel, Peekskill Presbyterian Church, and Ossining Hyland Avenue M E Church, under local arrangments by Prof A E Linder and Rev C H Carr.
The White Plains Automobile Dealers Association plans an auto parade on Saturday September 11 featuring member showings of car lines. Decorated cars and floats compete for prizes with two or more bands providing music. Open to private owners, the two o’clock event will travel through principal streets, showcasing about thirty car makes and new models.

About three hundred attendees gathered in Rye for an all day Democratic Women of Westchester event. Regional directors were chosen for three zones: Long Island Sound border led by Mrs. Daniel O Day, Harlem Valley by Miss Adelaide Goan, and Hudson River by Mrs. Mattie E Truman. The afternoon at Sunbright featured speakers on suffrage, the League of Nations, and New York politics with Harriet May Mills urging voters to serve the state over party and exercise the vote.
Brown's Buick Service in White Plains New York announces the arrival of 1921 Buick and Oakland cars. The dealer promises road cost appearance upkeep and all tests and comparisons favor these models from a firm with ten years in business.
The Scarsdale American Legion Post will adopt one or more war orphans from France, pledging $75 to support a child for one year. The American Red Cross will select and oversee funds, with all money going to the child and administration borne by the Red Cross.
Scarsdale ladies raise funds through selling berries and vegetables and offering tutoring. Mrs Cheney and her mother netted their ten dollar goal while other members donate time or skills. Members advertise string beans and tutoring to help meet club indebtedness with creative earners.
Mr George Vause agrees to operate a Sunday bus from Edgemont to Scarsdale Catholic Church, departing 7 15 a m and returning after mass. The service aids Edgemont households and reflects his helpful, community minded reputation at village stations and bridges.
The Woman's Club will open for the younger set for the second informal dance on September 10 at 8 o'clock. The event invites local youths to attend this community social.
