Capt Lindsay H. Welling Jr of the Marine Air Corps has been recalled to service after three and a half years in World War II. He previously flew for American Airlines and lived in White Plains. His wife Mary Alden Gibson joined him in Miami where he is stationed at a new Marine Air Base.

October Weather Summary From Village Engineering Report
October was 3.3 degrees colder than usual and 0.241 inches drier per John J. Kappes of the Village Engineering Dept. October 14 marked the warmest day at 80 degrees while October 21 dropped to 24 degrees as the coldest. The wettest day was October 2 with 0.91 inch of rain. The warmest October day since 1943 was October 10 1949 90 degrees and the coldest since 1948 until this year with 24 degrees on October 19 1948.
