The registry board sits in Scarsdale Town Hall on June the ninth from 5 to 9 p m. Registrars include R Ross F W Terhune Lees Dunham and Hegh Jarvis.
Mr FH Ball Jr local manager of the New York Aghene Company announces a plan under which every employee from boy to man may purchase Liberty Bonds on easy installments. The program extends over one year with weekly payments and bonds issued to employees by June 1918 earning interest around three percent.
The Westchester Kennel Club show at Gedney Farm White Plains June 23 invites entries from many breeds plus police dog demonstrations by German Shepherds and other breeds. Officials plan special trolley service from New York stations and offer extensive classes for members and children.
A military census campaign runs June 11 to 27 with district chiefs and headquarters telephones listed. Census takers are assigned to each district and mobile service collects blanks from the court. Instructions and questions prepared in thirteen languages will be distributed across West Chester with returns at night.
The Village Board held its May 23 meeting at Village Hall. It approves efforts to abate a nuisance on an estate on a road and sets a ten day deadline. failing abatement, the village will act and charge the estate. The board also plans to notify the Safety Committee with the sanitary inspector. State Highway Commission funds of 5630 to improve Post Road are approved, with Bethell urging action to compel pipe work before road improvements. A Public Utilities Committee motion calls for fast action with village counsel. Roads along Meadow and Cambridge may be taken over. decision deferred. A tentative assessment revision on special franchises is prepared for Albany review in June. Fire protection upgrades include a siren horn for fires and a heart officer fund of 50. Bills were audited and paid.
President Wilson names Henry P. Davidson of Pierpont & Co. as chairman of the Red Cross Council. The first nationwide meeting of the 40-city committee outlined a vast program for aid in Europe and for relief at home, calling for massive funding and mobilization of doctors nurses engineers rail support and a million volunteers to meet the war's humanitarian demands.
An announcement says the American Express Company purchased a large block of Liberty Bonds of 1917 and will extend the offer to all employees to buy at cost. It notes privileges to subscribe for bonds to facilitate sales, as reported to local party J. F Bedell.
A Scarsdale Memorial Day event drew crowds as Home Defense League led a parade along the Town Hall and rill ground. Veterans were honored with a Gettysburg speech by John W Dickinson, color presentation, and the singing of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. Names of local enlistees and service members were read, highlighting community involvement.
Grievance Day arrives next Tuesday in Scarsdale with the Village Board of Trustees hearing all complaints about the assessment rolls from 3 to 7 PM in the Town Hall.
