The Town Club wrapped its 49th year with a May 21 meeting in the Scarsdale High School auditorium. Officers for 1953 54 were elected as members received life membership certificates and Town Club medals for distinguished service.
At a special meeting on May 20 the Board of Supervisors voted 34 to 2 to let Westchester assume ownership of the State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences as a community college beginning Sept 1. The Institute will shift to a three way funding split among State, student, and county with estimated local costs rising through 1955.
The annual Fox Meadow picnic will be held next Thursday from 4 30 to 7 30 with games and festivities. Mrs J Gordon Lippincott announced committees for Refreshments Carousels Ponies Good Humans Safety Publicity Games Music and Cookie Sale with student council coordinating.
The Scarsdale Public Library will be closed on Memorial Day, with services paused for the holiday. Patrons are advised to plan accordingly and return materials in advance.

The Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced a new state traffic law prohibiting stickers on windshields or rear windows starting Monday. The rule allows stickers on side windows, the back of a rear-view mirror, or on a sunvisor where front and rear view remain unobstructed for highway safety.
At the May 20 Greenville Community Council meeting two new committees were formed. A planning and arrangements committee led by Robert Garrett and a School Building Committee including the council vice-president and PTA leaders will work with the Board of Education to publicize and assist in new school building plans. Mrs. Oliver H. Durrell was named corresponding secretary. two resignations were referred to the nominating committee.
The Boy Scout Mothers Club sells home baked cakes under the Big Top at Butler Field before during and after the Memorial Day parade. Proceeds benefit Camp Read and Sage Hill Camp. Cub Scout Mothers under Mrs Richard Nimmons help ensure ample cakes with plans for a rain location at the Boy Scout House.
From Scarsdale were Don ald J. Ward and Joseph G. Ward of 166 Nelson Rd Paul A. Tarter of 5 Oak Lane and Robert E. McKenna of 186 Delhi Rd inducted into Army Service from Local Draft Board 10 Mt. Vernon on May 18.
Scarsdale residents gathered at a May 24 reception hosted by the High School PTA to honor retiring Scarsdale High School principal Dr Lester W Nelson and his wife. About 1500 attendees witnessed a gala tribute featuring the band, school colors, exhibits, and a car gift with keys and a silver plaque. The senior class presented a leather-bound collection and a monetary check to help buy another car, while Dr Nelson expressed deep gratitude for the community’s generosity.
Scarsdale Public Library provides a special summer loan allowing members to borrow up to four books until October 1. New or in demand books remain on regular loan terms. The program helps readers catch up on the Great Books or enjoy entertainment while away.
Mrs. Robert P Judy was elected chairman of the Scarsdale Branch of the American Red Cross at a May 19 directors meeting. The annual morning meeting in the Woman's Club library awarded 66 long service pins, including Mrs. J L Green for 35 years, presented by Frank B Cuff chapter chairman and Mrs. Charles G Loeb service groups chairwoman.
Annual meeting of the Secor Farms Property Owners Ass'n will be held at 8 15 Monday at the American Legion Hall Mamaro neck Rd. Dr George Rabb will report on Heathcote School status bus transportation and community issues including building violations enforcement and child behavior. Three board members to be elected and a membership expansion proposal for areas near Reynald Crossing White Plains line Secord and the Boston and Westchester right of way.
Scarsdale's 1953 Community Fund Campaign runs from Saturday October 31 to Sunday November 8. William Johnston, president of Scarsdale Community Fund and Council Inc, announced the dates after the first campaign committee meeting. Johnston named chairmen for the drive including Sydney D. Maddock Pacemakers Mrs Norman H Smeltzer Business Division Harold H Tucker general solicitation John W DeWolf Eastern Division John H Hearne Central Division M P Cosgrove Western Division Otis Winegar publicity Kiot Binzen quotas and reports.
Dr. Charles N. Frey of Cambridge Road, a MIT consultant and lecturer, is honored at the Institute of Food Technologists annual meeting in Boston in June with the Stephen Babcock Award for his career in food science and biochemical research and its practical application.
Mrs. Joan Bacus reports to Greenburgh Police on May 21 that a tall white man stole her Pinto Western pony named Scout tied to a tree near Old Sprain Road. The brown and white gelding valued at $1,000 wore a sterling silver saddle and bridle.
The junior girls and girls New York State tennis championships will be held at the County Tennis Club in Hartsdale from June 29 to July 4. Kenneth W. Greenawalt announces the event under the United States and Western Lawn Tennis Associations. Entries go to the Eastern Lawn Tennis Association at 120 Broadway, NYC. The junior event is open to players 18 and under, the girls' event to 15 and under.
The Scarsdale Woman's Exchange at 33 Harwood Court, normally open Saturdays 9 am to 1 pm, will be closed all day tomorrow for Memorial Day.
Scarsdale observes Memorial Day with a 8:45 parade from East Parkway to Boniface Circle wreath laying, then along Popham Rd and Church Lane to St James the Less churchyard for services at 9:15. Veterans graves, salutes, taps, and prayers precede a 10:30 march to Butler Field and reviews by Brig. Gen. Clement H. Wright.
Parents are urged to donate Boy Scout uniforms for troops in Korea as the Scarsdale Scout season ends. If sons are graduating or outgrowing their uniforms, bring them to Mrs. John Dennis at 28 Huntington Ave, president of the Boy Scout Mothers Club, for collection and quick dispatch.
Planning Commission urged the Village Board to relocate the Heathcote School entrance exit opposite Wynmor Rd for traffic safety. It argued two police officers would be needed under the current plan and favored the one-time road change over ongoing policing costs. The report was sent to the public safety committee by Mayor Theodore Sander Jr.
A petition_signed by 11 residents_objects to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church parking lot on Gaylor Road being used as a playground and roller skating rink. They insist zoning variance approved by the Board of Appeals causes noise and property value decline, with mayor forwarding the letter to the law committee.
Greenburgh Town Council approved consolidating eight water districts in the unincorporated area. Bonded indebtedness will remain a lien on property. Public Works Commissioner Dan C Nolan Jr says the move boosts economy and efficiency and allows a new Delaware Aqueduct tap without a new water tax. A second supply is planned if the Catskill Aqueduct is shut for repairs.
The Scarsdale High School Senior Band presents the 15th annual Pop Concert Friday evening June 12 at 8 15 in the high school auditorium. The program includes Handel Tschaikowsky Wood Gershwin Rodgers Sousa and others. Willard S Briggs director of the 72 piece band will announce soloists later.
The Greenburgh Town Council amended the building zone ordinance to require at least 28 000 cubic feet for homes in the Club Way Old Colony Rd area. The change follows a request by the Greenridge Association and aligns with the master zoning plan by consultant Wayne H Heydecker for the broader district.
Grand Boulevard's Hyatt Field faces postponement to spring to allow turf to become well rooted for a food grass playing surface. A fall opening will include a paved basketball and roller skating area and a sports equipment zone for small games.
Navy Lt. (j.g.) Everit S. Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Morgan of Morris Lane, is serving aboard the destroyer USS Chauncey in the Far East. The Chauncey, a unit of Destroyer Squadron 28, recently operated with fast carrier Task Force 77. Before joining the squadron, the Chauncey guarded Won san Harbor in Korea against possible amphibious invasion and provided gunfire support for US and ROK minesweepers there. Since leaving Norfolk, officers and men of the Chauncey have visited Panama City, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Midway Island and Sasebo, Japan.
Eastchester Town Council says it cannot close Locust Ave between Bell and Webster Rd, blocking the school board’s plan to merge about 16 lots opposite Fenimore Cooper School for playground and school use. The decision rests on a state attorney general letter noting closing would not end existing easements.
