Village trustee Bob Delany leads Scarsdale's 50th anniversary plans guiding about 120 volunteers across committees and meetings. A longtime resident, he juggles train chats, family duties, and public duties, praised for calm decisiveness and devotion to the community. Continued on Page 10.
Scarsdale residents must sharply cut water use for conservation amid NYC reservoir shortages. The order, issued by assistant village manager H Victor Cordy with Mayor Robert Wagner, limits lawn sprinkling by house number and requires water-saving devices on AC and refrigeration, leaks repair, and bucket car washing. Penalties up to 100 dollars per offense.
Final draft of a non partisan nominating procedure for Scarsdale School Board sets up an Administrative Committee of 20 members, with 15 voting and 5 non voting. It requires lists of candidates by elementary area by November 25, includes at least two candidates per vacancy, and allows voter suggestions from 15 residents.
The Scarsdale Village Board will host an 8:15 p.m. meeting at Dyckman Hall to launch a six month observance of Scarsdale’s 50th year as an incorporated village. Ex mayor Theodore Sander and former mayor John Stark Weather will address past milestones and growth from 1915 to 1955.
A special public meeting of the Consolidated Board will be held on June 1 at 8 15 p m in the Scarsdale Junior High School music room to elect officers for the newly authorized board. The action aims to avoid delays before the June 14 regular meeting.
Judge Friedman seeks volunteer lawyers to defend indigent defendants in Scarsdale Police Court. Westchester Legal Aid Society is overworked, so a local attorney roster is to be compiled, with one to two lawyers weekly in rotation, usually evening hours. Interested attorneys may contact the court clerk.
An open meeting to discuss the proposed School Board Nominating System will be held June 1 at 8 p.m. at the Junior High School by the Citizens Committee where voters may ask questions about the plan. Balloting on the resolution is scheduled for June 15.
Charles Frankel a Columbia University philosophy professor and renowned author will speak at Scarsdale High School Commencement on Friday June 25. Exercises begin at 5 30 p m. Frankel Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Columbia College held a Sage Fellowship at Cornell served as a naval officer in the Pacific during World War II and aided in military intelligence after the war.
A Town Club committee proposes a new Village Hall of about 20 000 square feet at the rear of the current building. Co chairs Albert J. D Arcy and Hartselle D. Kinsey estimate total cost at 780 000 with 500 000 from Public Building Fund and Reserve and the rest via short term borrowing. The group endorses constructing anew rather than renovating the old 1903 hall which is deemed unsafe and inadequate for current functions.
Richard S. Hansen becomes president of the Town Club tonight succeeding Richard W. Darrow who moves to governor at large. Nominated for office are Szabad as vice president Metz treasurer Keane Jr assistant treasurer Bennett secretary Ogilvy assistant secretary Finney. Governors named with Darrow are Burstein and McMahon. Town Club medals to Rogers Atwood Smelter Snyder Horowitz Levitt and Ochs Jr.
Scarsdale High School plans a rotating block schedule after renovations in 1966. Major non laboratory courses would meet four times weekly for 52 minutes and laboratory science six periods, with one or two xX periods for assemblies or special programs. A faculty committee will finalize details over 12 months.
