Only about $5,000 has been raised for the Our Town Overseas program from fewer than 500 families. Robert E. Delany says first week returns are discouraging and paid performances are being considered. A 30-person team will travel July 1 to Montreal then England aboard the SS Seven Seas for at least 19 performances in ships and cities including London and Holland.

Scarsdale Delays July 4 Celebration Due to Safety Costs
A volunteer committee has canceled this year’s Scarsdale July 4 event over late start concerns and fundraising worries. In 1956 about 25 000 people attended, snarling streets and triggering safety issues. The town club agrees to return to a traditional celebration, with officials requiring policing and cleanup staff and Board of Education permission for Butler Field. The committee plans to redirect efforts to planning for next year’s celebration.

Two Acre Zone Receives Final Village Board Approval
The village board approved the two acre AA-1 zoning for large areas of two private golf courses and surrounding parcels after a third hearing and a prior technical error. The decision, originally made March 28, was voided and reheard. Also approved were parking changes on Scarsdale Avenue and Popham Road, plus honoring former Trustee Paul S. Smith with a silver plate.
