Funeral services honor J P Hallman a leading Scarsdale citizen who lived in Greenacres for over a decade. He helped reorganize the Greenacres Association and Scarsdale Golf Club and supported Hitchcock Memorial Church.
Gary N. Calkins and Otis L. Guernsey were unanimously reelected trustees at the annual Scarsdale school meeting in the high school auditorium. A six person nominations committee was proposed by three local groups. Judge White was elected chairman and sworn in as part of the meeting.
Mr. William E. Harmon argues that planning and pre setting land for playgrounds can prevent traffic deaths and moral and health hazards for children. He urges authorities to reserve suitable plots as cities grow to avoid costly condemnations later and to provide supervised play spaces for youth.
Greenburgh adopts a zoning ordinance sharply defining Class A residential areas and designated business corridors including Central avenue and Ardsley road intersections. The measure, praised by Edgemont resident C F Bond, aims to protect Greenville and Edgemont while the Westchester Street Railroad faces possible abandonment without municipal aid. Supreme Court Justice Morschauser set June 2 to sign an order permitting closure unless help arrives, risking a switch to buses for travelers.
Rehearsals for Greenacres Players show at Purchase Community House on Friday May 23 progress under Roy S Durstine. Highlights include Mah Jong sketch Flapper Chorus Perusing in Peru two crooks and a lady sketch and a Wayside Players reprise. Tickets $6 to benefit Hitchcock Memorial Woman's Guild with limited seating.
The Scarsdale Woman's Club membership committee posts on the bulletin board the names of members who did not pay dues by April 1. Those unpaid by July 1 will be dropped from membership.
The Scarsdale Revue at Dyckman Hall on May 2 showcased Mrs Muhffeld’s personal triumph with flowers and unending applause as she led a packed house in support of the Woman's Club building fund. Performances highlighted Mother Goose numbers, Greek dance, and a Scarsdale Songsters sequence, earning praise for quality and local charm.
Residents of School District No. 6 met May 6 to approve roads spending for the new Central Avenue School House on high ground. Two trustees were elected Mrs. Jerome Coombs and Mr. Charles F. Bond. A plan to sell the old schoolhouse for at least $20,000 passed. The budget totaled 39500 with 10000 for road improvements.
Mrs. Lawrence takes the title role in Allison's Lad in a Wayside Players gala at Dyckman Hill on Wednesday May 14. The full cast includes Harold Davie Hobart Upjohn and Kenneth Hogg in key roles with Mary Buchanan Lawrence as Colonel John Drummond. The bill opens with Rollin Kirby's As the Limb is Gent and features The Maker of Dreams staged by Mrs. Walter Schwartz with Pierrot played by Dan Hinckley Arnold and Ruth Reed in The Scarsdale Revue continuation.
