Scarsdale Village debates placing a library parking lot on the Sarah V. Coombs memorial site near the Public Library. Garden Club officials urge preserving the bird sanctuary and shrubs while noting over $1,000 and 300 plantings. Board to hold combined meetings with Garden Club and Library Board to consider relocation possibilities.
The Scarsdale Elks Club and Recreation Dept announce free tennis clinics at the Brite Ave courts. Younger players under 11 meet at 3:30 on Tuesdays May 12 19 26 and June 2 9. older players meet at 3:30 on Thursdays May 21 28 June 4 and 11. Edward J. Ghiazza from the Recreation Dept will teach.
The Education and School Budget Committee of The Town Club offers extra copies of The Scarsdale Schools report. Available at Harwood Building room 19 with Mrs. Lynch or Stephen L. Angell & Co offices at 2 Depot Place. price listed at $2.50 per copy.

Scarsdale High School unveiled its $644,000 gymnasium beginning Monday, offering 800 spectator capacity and flexible use for basketball, PE classes, wrestling, and future expansion. District 1 residents are invited to inspect the facility during the May 6 school budget vote.
The Red Cross will hold a volunteer orientation and indoctrination course at Montrose Hospital on Tuesday from 10 to 4 and 7 to 10 30. Prospective enrollees should call the Red Cross office on East Parkway to register.
Scarsdale Community Fund and Council, Inc. announces the appointments of Pacemaker chair Sherwood M. Bonney of Walworth Ave. and Publicity chair Richard Strouse of Potter Rd. President Winston F. E. Hobbs notes expanded Pacemaker and publicity efforts for 18 beneficiary agencies. Bonney, a Harvard Law graduate and Johnson & Higgins officer, and Strouse, a Carl Bycir & Associates employee, join a retooled drive with new publicity leadership under Mrs. William W. Blunt Jr.
Town residents can pick up copies at the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall Knollwood and Tarrytown Roads for a review of the incinerator issue and a questionnaire. Councilman Thomas J. Coyle calls it an inescapable municipal problem and says action to acquire a site cannot be delayed. The council moved to authorize prompt condemnation for a 40 acre hilltop site east of Taxter Road south of the Thruway. Greenburgh uses Croton Point Dump, but may lose it around 1960 per County Park Commission. Supervisor Edward N. Vetrano says a referendum may be held once all costs are known, though not legally required.
The Village Board sets a public hearing for Tuesday May 12 on a proposed rule requiring a four foot fence around all swimming pools. New pools must be fenced, while many older pools remain unenclosed. The push follows the death of a four year old girl who drowned in a private pool last month.
Robert Philbrick was elected chairman of the Greenville Recreation Committee at the annual meeting held at Kenneth W. Greenawalt's home. Officers include Mrs. Harold Speert vice-chairman and Clarence Linville treasurer. The group reported a 10th year of activity serving 1200 to 1300 local children through Teenarena Fathers' League Summer Play School and tennis programs.
The New Rochelle Federal Savings Scarsdale office at 24 Chase Rd opens its Open House day from 10 to 4 to mark ten years of service. Prizes include a home movie set, clock radio, coffee maker, and savings accounts with gifts for new account openings. Local dignitaries attend as honored guests and staff host a community celebration reflecting a decade of growth and more than $5 million in savings.

Nobel Prize author Pearl Buck will headline the Friends of the Scarsdale Library annual meeting on May 12 at 8 30 p m in the Junior High School auditorium. Buck speaks on China in the World Today linking The Good Earth to global readers and cinema.
East Scarsdale Association annual meeting set for Monday at 8 15 p m in Heath cote School library. Mayor David B Mathias and Mrs Mathias to attend. Slate includes Earl M Goldberger president Jules L Wacht vice president Mia Philip H Steckler Jr secretary Arnold Hart treasurer Charles A Hammarstrom retiring president Theodore Tannenwald Jr governor. John M. Young of Underhill Rd was elected president of the Fox Meadow Tennis Club at the April 20 annual meeting. George R. Harrison was chosen vice president, with John A. Schwable as treasurer and William E. Pardoe as secretary. board members include Clifford D. Couch Jr, Walter H. Close, Lloyd M. Powell, Thomas F. Creamer, and Henry L. McClintock.
Pvt Richard D Morgan of Garth Woods is selected for a year long Persian language course at the U S Army Language School in Monterey California under the stepped up program to address a shortage of skilled linguists. He is a Scarsdale High School and Northwestern University graduate and will be prepared to translate read write and converse in Persian after completing the course.
Scarsdale High School hosts the Thespians production Life with Father on May 9 at 2:30 and 8:30 p.m coached by Robert P Hasel tine. District One elects trustees and votes on budget and after hours use for political meetings. District Two and Greenburgh District Six also plan elections and budgets with proposals for new buildings, recreational areas, and parking. Nominees include Norman Smeltzer John S Snyder George M Szabad Murray Steyer and others. Voting eligibility includes US citizenship age twenty one and district residency for 30 days with property ownership or parental status as additional qualifications.
Public interest grows over the seven acre Weinberg Estate tract as a village committee hears proposals. The open meeting in Village Hall Annex was led by Paul B. Smith with members Mrs. Alfred P. Slaner and Richard Netter present. Officials discussed the deed deadline of December 31 and possible extensions, and plans from the Art Assn and Hoff-Barthelson School of Music were outlined.
Raymond F. Woodhouse of Richeliu Rd was elected president of the Drake Rd Edgewood Assn at its April 24 meeting at Edgewood School. He succeeds Walter J. McNamara with officers Taylor Ogden Lewis Knickerbocker and Charles Schneider. Board members include Norbert Hofman Jr Edward Hackman Frank Lowell Martin Brennan Glen Ruffner S Watson Thomas and Edward Dietrich. Woodhouse, a 14 year Scarsdale resident active in The Town Club, chairs the Cohaw ney District Washington Irving Council Boy Scouts finance committee and was treasurer last year. Cliff Scholl provided dancing music after the session and prizes were awarded including a special prize to Mr and Mrs Samuel Duboff as the newest area couple.
The Scarsdale Postal Employees Benevolent Association hosts its annual benefit show tomorrow night at 8 30 in the High School auditorium headlining five professional acts led by the Castle Sisters from Peter Lind Hayes TV program.
Experienced cast gathered for the Fort Hill Players under director George Shoemaker of High Point Terrace. The Okinawan language Sachuan is being crafted for the May 7 8 and 9 performances at Edgemont High School Theatre White Oak Lane. Irving Rosen leads as Sakini with George Cherry as Captain Fisby and Charles Schneider as Col Purdy bringing seasoned and new talent to the production.
The Eastchester District 1 Board of Education offers $6,000 for two and one third acres of town land at Burnham Road and Garth Drive near Greenvale School. A town referendum would be required for the sale, while the town would not need a referendum to approve. The offer is under study by the town property committee.
The Village Board will hold a public hearing on May 12 to add part of Rock Creek Lane off Palmer Ave to the official map. Village Attorney Richard A. Tilden said the roadway was built by two developers and deeded to the village.
