Former Village Trustee Sher wood R. Silliman lauded Mayor Edward Ingalls and Trustees Earle R. Van Vliet James J. Pilliod at Tuesday night’s Village Board session. Incoming Mayor Harold L. Smith praised Ingalls Van Vliet and Pilliod. resolutions passed amid applause. Also echoed by Mrs Courtney C. Brown James J. Daly Henry Placek Frank J. Heller and Peter W. Quinn.
Louis K. Horlyk, Federal Securities Administrator for the Westchester area, will speak to Scarsdale Post 52, American Legion, at its next Wednesday meeting about Social Security and the latest revisions to the Social Security Act.

Draft Board 10 in Mount Vernon serving Scarsdale and Greenburgh lowers its April quota from 103 to 60 men. The contingent reports April 20 with 148 men for pre induction exams on April 9 and another 148 on April 13. Overall April quota sliced from 80 000 to 40 000 due to high enlistment and Korea’s low casualties.
Milton S. Harrison of Brewster Road urged the village to enact an ordinance banning dogs in public school buildings and grounds unless leashed. The suggestion was referred to the board's legal committee for action.
The mayor Edward Ingalls files the annual estimate showing a tax rate up to 13.373 per thousand and total expenditures of 1,236,400. Revenues rise to 1,003,000 with a 137,400 increase, while assessed valuation climbs to 75,000,000. The plan includes higher wages, retirement and workmen's comp costs, and a 12 8 5 scale wage increase, with board action set for next week and a public hearing scheduled later.
Scarsdale’s Congregational Church of Scarsdale at Heathcote and Post Roads will be dedicated Sunday at 11:05 a.m. The ceremony marks 56 years of the congregation with Rev. Edward C. Boynton delivering the dedicatory sermon and retiring as pastor.

The Health Dept reported one new chicken pox case and two measles cases in Scarsdale during the past week. Public health officials urged vaccination and awareness to prevent further spread.
Jerome E Travers son of Police Sergeant Lawrence J Travers and Mrs Travers of Clarence Road left March 19 for the Naval Training Base at Newport Rhode Island for four years of active duty. He was associated with Sun Oil Co at enlistment and is a graduate of IHM School Scarsdale High School and the State University of New York at Delhi.
The Recreation Dept announces indoor play ends March 1 at Edgewood Greenacres Fox Meadow and Quaker Ridge schools and indoor activities at the High School end April 14, detailing the spring cutoffs for district programs.
Organization meeting of the new Village Board will be at eight o'clock Monday evening at the Village Hall on Post Road near Popham Road. Harold L. Smith newly elected mayor will preside at the session.

Captain William S. Shuttleworth of Walbrook Road has been recalled to active duty as an artillery captain in the U S Army after a career as a salesman and agency manager with Equitable Life in New York. He earned stars for five European campaigns in World War II and will maintain his Reserve commission. Mrs Shuttleworth will stay in Scarsdale until their daughter Sharon completes Edgemont's spring term, then the family will rent and follow Capt Shuttleworth when possible.
First Lt. Eugene B. Mechiling Jr the son of Mr and Mrs Mechling of Bernardsville New Jersey and formerly Scarsdale New York earned the silver wings of a jet fighter pilot at Williams Air Force Base Chandler Arizona on March 24.
After a Tuesday public hearing the Village Board approved three hour parking along parts of Fox Mead ow Rnd Walworth and Greenacres Aves. Edgewood Rd south side restrictions were postponed for study following neighborhood resident suggestions.

Alden C. Smith of Carstensen Rd. is elected president for the coming year, succeeding Theodore Sander Jr. as board chairman. John E F Wood becomes budget committee chair. Smith’s background includes Harvard Business and Price Waterhouse. Wood is a partner at Root Ballantine law firm and active in local civic groups.
After a tense village session ending at 2 15 a m the board rejected Heathcote Inn buy and approved a 10 foot wide strip along Heathcote Inn for Popham Rd widening The engineering firm favored Chase Rd lots for parking citing lower cost and traffic impact while Heathcote Inn development was deemed excessive for now The mayor paused noting informal talks before a transition to the new administration.
Sports Night will host its third annual Sports Night and Award Ceremony at the High School on Friday, April 13 at eight. The Chamber of Commerce plans to award more than 130 basketball trophies to champions across divisions and the Recreation Dept will present awards in many other sports. The full program will appear in The Inquirer next week.
