Publisher notes a new mail in parking summons in Scarsdale starting April 1. Fines rise with delays up to 20 dollars plus the original five. scofflaw enforcement tightens, with data processing to deny vehicle renewals for unpaid fines.
Edwin A deLima Park, a one acre village property at Popham and Autenrieth Roads, was dedicated Sunday March 23. Mayor Murray Steyer led a 150 to 200 strong ceremony praising Ted deLima as a tireless community advocate who helped shape Scarsdale’s open space and master plan. Community leaders highlighted his work on zoning, open spaces, the first architectural review board, and preservation efforts including the Autenrieth property and Cudner Hyatt House.
Scarsdale residents are invited to an open PR&C meeting on Tuesday April 1 to express views on recreation and conservation programs. Kenneth Batchelor will review developments. main speakers are residents. The seven member council includes Schroeder Brown Croen Hand Pascal Seymour Sweeney and School Board rep Mrs Buzbee.
A Scarsdale Town Club subcommittee asks the Village Board to back an indoor pool adjoining Scarsdale High School. Estimated $800,000 capital cost and $113,860 annual operating expenses, with self funding plans via Enterprise Fund and possible private aid. The project would serve residents, school programs, and after-school activities, pending further study by a Citizens Ad Hoc Committee.
A masked gunman robbed Louis Bachner at the Penn Central depot station in Scarsdale on March 22, taking his wallet and wristwatch before fleeing. Bachner, a Brooklyn resident, described the robber as about five six in dark clothing with a revolver. Another March 18 purse snatching targeted Priscilla Mudge nearby.
A suspect grabbed a woman's wicker tote bag and fled in a waiting car with an accomplice. Police recovered the pocketbook along the Bronx River Parkway, but $20 was missing. Four house burglaries were reported this week, including a March 18 break in at Henry Bloch’s home at 40 Park Road and a March 20 theft of about $600 in lawnmowers and gardening items.
At the March 25 village board meeting retiring Mayor Murray Steyer and Trustee John T. Hodges were honored with silver trays and praised for integrity, judicial temperament, and major projects. Trustee Boine T. Johnson Jr. also retired and will become mayor April 7. Community clubs and officials expressed appreciation for their service.
Scarsdale Response to Hunger’s Food Bank collects fruit canned or dried this week. Donations go to participating churches and groups by March 30 and will be delivered to Scarsdale Community Baptist Church by noon March 31. Week ending March 23 yielded 716 pounds.
Patrolman Roger Geary of the Scarsdale Police Department was found guilty by the Village Board of Trustees on seven charges arising from driving a police car while intoxicated and wrecking it on November 5, 1974. The board, in an administrative hearing, found driving while intoxicated and other offenses including damage to police property, failure to cooperate in investigation, and conduct unbecoming a officer. Sentencing scheduled after March 31 with evidence deadline.
