Michaelian Discusses Westchester Drug Problems At Rotary Meeting
Westchester County Executive Edwin G. Michaelian warned at a Pleasantville Rotary Club luncheon that one area high school reports 75 to 100 students as hard core narcotics addicts, many on heroin. He cited a school poll showing 21 percent of 1,342 students tried marijuana and 3.5 percent tried heroin. He noted about 20 percent of inmates in county facilities linked to narcotics issues and argued marijuana is addictive, potentially leading to heroin use.

Joint Session With Mt Vernon On School Plans

Swift Police Rescue Child Amid Rapid Response in Scarsdale
Scarsdale Police saved a 16 month old after Thomas Dunne swallowed airplane thinner. Officers reached 9:24 a.m. and arrived at White Plains Hospital by 9:29 a.m. using emergency vehicles stocked with hospital equipment and staffed by trained officers. The child remains under observation at the hospital.

At the Scarsdale village board meeting, Village Manager Lowell J. Tooley outlined a budget with a tax rate of 28.91 per thousand, up 2.24 from last year. Assessed values rise to 33 percent of fair market value, with reserves for salaries under Taylor law negotiations. Public hearings are set for April 15 and notices go out this week to inform taxpayers of proposed assessments and appointment times for discussions April 8 to 12.

Student Rally Urges Bus Plan for Integrated Education
