Protests Over Duck Pond Parking to Board Meeting
Village residents and organizations pressed the Board of Trustees at a Tuesday session against paving the Duck Pond area and dumping in nearby marshlands. Letters from Irving Kram and Boine T. Johnson Jr. urged preservation, while others argued for or against parking facilities and public hearings. The mayor said dumping is suspended and under study. a public hearing was requested.

Student fund aid bids rise as scholarships urged
Scarsdale High School PTA Scholarship Fund chairman David Rosenberg says applications are increasing as college costs rise. Last year grants totaling 7,650 supported 15 students, with funds from this year needing a higher figure than ever to meet expected demand and maintain aid since 1950 to 120 recipients.

Fire House Memorial Pole Planned at Popham Road
The Village Board of Trustees decides to erect a 30 foot telescoping flagpole in a concrete base at the Popham Road fire house. A plaque will honor deceased department members and the pole is set for dedication on May 20.

Winds Fueled Several Brush Fires Across Local Areas
Heavy winds powered multiple brush fires last week. At 18 Donellan Road a fire spread from leaves to a garage, causing damage to the slate and boards before firefighters using a garden hose stopped it. A separate Friday fire at 8 Griffen Avenue damaged a fence and plants. On Monday a small blaze along Post Road near 1126 Post Road was extinguished with a booster line.

Interfaith Dinner to Feature World Tensions Talk
The Scarsdale Interfaith Laymen’s Dinner will hear Rev. Dan M. Potter speak on Goodwill and World Tensions. Potter, executive director of The Protestant Council of New York, recently returned from a Middle East trip carrying goodwill messages to leaders including Israel’s president and Pope Paul VI. Space Series For Students Opens Aprl
A series of lectures on space exploration and the planetary system organized by the Westchester Science Advisory Council runs Saturdays from April 11 to May 23 at Bronxville High School 10 am to 12 noon. Village Board studies a 22.42 tax rate for 1964 65 with total expenditures of 2 949 915 an increase of 145 415 from the prior year. The $22.42 rate based on 104 152 700 assessed value rises 1.97 percent and public hearing is set for April 14.

Pro Orchestra Ends 10-Concert Season Here
The all professional Music for Westchester Symphony Orchestra closed its second season with concerts in Mamaroneck and Scarsdale featuring Met Opera Star Phyllis Curtin as guest soloist. The season included ten main concerts, three youth concerts, and notable guests such as Claudio Arrau Leon Fleisher Tessy Spivakovsky and James Oliver Buswell. For 1964-65 Sunday concerts move to Friday at Highlands School White Plains due to construction and scheduling. Arthur Judson notes regret at leaving Scarsdale.

Accidents last week include an eight year old boy Thomas Sherman injured when his bicycle hit a moving auto at Brewster Road and Huntington Road. Esiah Jones of Ted's Esso Station sustained hip injuries when a serviced car rolled in gear. A 1961 blue Ford station wagon vanished from Herbert Schulte's driveway after leaving keys in the ignition. A window and desk were damaged at Scarsdale High School likely by a railing post.

Model UN Assembly to convene in Mount Vernon
The East Coast Model United Nations Assembly will convene in Mount Vernon from April 10 to 12 with 950 students representing 111 United Nations member nations.
