Yonkers Man Awarded 20000 in Elevator Shaft Fall

Wallace T. Nickerson of Yonkers won a 20000 jury verdict in the Supreme Court against Electro Silica Company of New York for a May 15 incident in a New York City building shaft. He fell three stories into an open elevator shaft, suffering permanent injuries including a broken hip leg and ribs and a fractured skull. Nickerson sued for 50000, represented by Thomas J. ONeill of Yonkers and Amos O. Stephens of New York City.

Extermination of Livestock Began in Westchester County

The state department of agriculture opened Wild Plains headquarters to combat foot and mouth disease. One hundred twenty six cows five hundred chickens and a number of pigeons belonging to William Fibbinson Yonkers were shot. Quarantine is enforced and veterinarians inspect herds advising frequent disinfection with Mercury bichloride solution.

Oglesbys Sue Cochran Over Fees After Property Purchase

John E. Mack of Poughkeepsie was appointed referee in the case brought by Woodson R. and A.S. Oglesby against Alexander Smith Cochran. Oglesbys had represented Cochran in a City of New York water shed appropriation at East View. The property was valued in the several hundred thousand dollars range, with lawyers seeking about $30,000 in fees.

County Board appoints unpaid commission for government reforms
