Scarsdale High School will host Army Specialized Training Program tests and Navy V-12 exams on Friday April 2 at 9:00 AM. The nationwide two hour tests select male students born 192? to 1943 who will graduate by July 1 1943 for college level technical training and officer candidate pathways.
Roger Smith Hotel in White Plains received a coal load from Hartsdale Coal Co alleged at 1 320 pounds under the recorded weight. Treas urer Pinkas Schmier of New Rochelle and driver Manuel Clara were cited as defendants. Hearing set for March 23 in White Plains City Court.
Measles spread leads to postponement of all social events at Sears Dale High School until next month. Since February 196 measles cases diagnosed among pupils, with 175 German measles cases. Scarsdale reports 68 new measles cases this week plus four chickenpox and one scarlet fever case.
The Factotums of the Woman's Club will offer a seventy five dollar scholarship to a White Plains Hospital School of Nursing student this year. Applications go to the Woman's Club and the award follows consultation with hospital nursing school committee Community Service and school authorities. Miss J Winifred Smith is named director of the nursing service and School of Nursing at the hospital. The nursing school committee met with Smith administrator Thomas Murray and Dr Edwin Ramsdell. Mrs Alan R Chalmers of Scarsdale chairs the committee with other members including Dr Alan Gregg Major Julia Stimson and former Mayor Robert Smith among others.
Major Frederick Choate Eaton Jr of the Army Air Forces, from Scarsdale, was notified February 15 of his promotion to major. He already holds the Oak Leaf Cluster and Silver Star, commanded training at Great Bend field, and has given a Red Cross speaking tour addressing 45,000 people in Tulsa.
Mrs Edward Johnson and Robert S Gordon are nominated by the citizens' nominating committee for the Scarsdale school board. Gordon, first elected in 1940, would continue as board member and is general counsel of the National Dairy Products Corporation. Johnson, a Goucher College graduate and longtime Scarsdale resident, would succeed Mrs Whittemore and has held multiple local leadership roles with Girl Scouts and the Woman's Club.
The Boyce Thompson Institute warns that five years should pass before planting vegetables on soil treated with arsenates to control Japanese beetles. Rutgers soil chemist Firman Bear notes arsenic uptake is possible but unlikely to reach dangerous levels in common plants. experts disagree and advise against growing vegetable crops for five years after such treatment.
Second Lieutenant John Cutler Lombard, bombardier on a Flying Fortress, has five enemy ships confirmed hit and took part in a raid northwest of Wewak. He recalls the Christmas letter from home and praises the men who keep faith and a sense of normal life amid war. He mentions his dog Merle and a photo of his mother in the garden.
Ralph A. Madill won the Arthur Manor Association presidency at the annual meeting held at Edgewood School on Wednesday evening. He succeeds David H. Morris and will lead officers Gwynne W. Spencer Harold King Mrs E N Wilmington and directors Arthur Ericson C R Jacobs George Gough James E Daly for a two year term.

A Scarsdale mother picks up a strange boy on Post Road in heavy rain while driving her daughter to Edgewood School. The boy, let into the car by courtesy, says he was sent home from junior high and jokes about having a sore throat and cold, prompting unease about his illness.

Twenty seven Scarsdale Post Office workers signed up to donate at the Red Cross Blood Plasma Unit event at Scarsdale Golf Club on April 12 from two to seven p.m. Twenty seven Scarsdale American Legion members also pledged twenty seven pints toward the town quota of 210 donors for the national goal of 4,000,000 pints for armed forces. Donors must be 21 to 60 in good health with no malaria or major diseases. juniors 18 to 21 may donate with parental consent. advance registration is required at Scarsdale Red Cross Headquarters.
Residents voted through yesterday morning with 172 in favor and eighty opposed on a temporary honor roll proposal. The tally rose to 252 votes in support as more ballots were processed.
Army canceled blackout tests for Westchester County yesterday and tonight in telegrams from Albany. Citizens should expect possible surprise tests this month and be ready to switch off house lights at the first blue signal and stay dark until the radio announces the all clear.
The Scarsdale Theatre will launch a new mixed format next Thursday March 25 with a single feature at 8 15 pm plus a preceding optional second feature at seven pm repeated after the main show for a double feature option. Proceeds from the inaugural performance go to the county Red Cross War Fund. The main film is Immortal Sergeant starring John Brophy with Henry Fonda and Maureen O Hara. the second feature is When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
Fathers of high school students will gather for their annual smoker next Tuesday evening at 8 15 in gymnasiums A and B. Raymond Atwood, vice president of the PTA, leads the event with Principal Lester W. Nelson presenting current war related topics and a county survey summary on school curriculum and work opportunities.
A nominating committee is appointed to submit a slate for the Scarsdale Branch Ameri can Red Cross officer election. It includes five members and an ex officio Red Cross representative. Members are Mrs Gaius W Merwin Mrs Ruth Nash Chalmers Mrs Burnham Finney William J Archibald and Andrew Wilson Jr. Ex-officio member is Mrs Robert Erskine. Election of officers occurs in May.

Ninety-one residents voted in the village election on Tuesday but the machines logged only eighty eight ballots. John K. Starkweather will become mayor next month after receiving eighty three votes. H Beach Carpenter and Mrs Gordon Hunger each tallied eighty eight votes. William F. Salter, Albert Swanson, and Police Justice Burchard Dutcher also posted strong totals. Carpenter, Salter and Swanson already serve on the board. Hunger to attend final outgoing meeting Tuesday at the Village Hall.
The Westchester War Council hosts a two day Warfair at the County Center White Plains to show efficient wartime living and the civilian economy's role in the war effort. Special features include demonstrations booths and films with participation from Red Cross Victory Garden Council recreation commission and public service groups. A daytime blackout display will reveal county protection services.
