Floods Along Bronx River Remain Fresh In Local Memory
The twenty fourth anniversary of the blizzard recalled by heavy rains caused Bronx River floods. Six inches of rain in ten hours overwhelmed lowlands from Bronxville to Searsdale, submerging DeWitt Avenue and homes on Paxton and Front Avenues. Bridges washed away, horses and dogs drifted, and factories closed as water rose over four feet in meadows near Gramatan stables.

New Congressional District Creates Republican Stronghold in Westchester
The 1911 gerrymander split Westchester Rockland and Yonkers areas into a new 24th Congressional District. Republicans are favored by election trends in the Westchester section, with Assembly districts 32d and 34th leaning GOP in prior years. A Westchester tax reform committee recommends centralizing assessment and abolishing exemptions to curb tax inequities, proposing three appointed taxation commissioners and county wide assessments.
