Scar dale parishioners await organ recital and Lenten oratorio

Scar dale residents anticipate a parish event led by Miss Lillian M Nugent of Mount Vernon. The March 20 program at Immaculate Heart Church features five trained vocalists and Boerne instruments performing sacred works from Beethoven Stabat Mater and The Holy City. Noted contralto Louise Gahler and tenor William Sae appear, with this being Nugent’s third appearance in as many years.

Westchester Forms County Public Safety Commission for War

Westchester County forms a 150 member Public Safety Commission to devise defensive measures if the United States enters war. Chairman William B. Thompson leads the effort with members from Yonkers Scarsdale and others. The Red Cross chapters coordinate military hospital prep and list autos for service in wartime.

Westchester Co Bills Become Laws in Recent Session

Governor Whitman signed five Westchester bills into law. One fixes Grand Jury sphers compensation by the Board of Supervisors, paid semi monthly. Another amends the tax law by requiring county clerks to mail certified stock corporation statements to city and town clerks between June 1 and June 15 each year. New York City counties are exempt. A third allows Yorktown to issue bonds up to 10000 to cover costs of challenging assessments against New York City. A fourth limits ministerial tax exemptions to non residents, and a fifth authorizes a village to issue bonds to the stated amount.

Resident offers yacht to government for use

Mr. Lewis Herzbg of Heathcote a member of the New York Yacht Club recently offered his yacht and his speed boat to the government for use in case the need presented itself. They will probably be assigned to the Third Naval District.
