The Greater Scarsdale United Fund and Council raised a record 222713 for 1968 but missed the 260000 target, at 85.7 percent of goal. President Robert M. James cited reduced donations by higher brackets and the Kings/ Kennedy era tensions as contributing factors.
The Scarsdale Youth Group Project will be administered by the Scarsdale Family Counseling Service under Sidney Paul. Dr. Meyer Rabban will lead boys groups and Mrs. Susan Solomon will lead a girls group with access through schools and other community referrals. A sliding fee based on ability to pay will apply, and no child will be denied service for lack of funds.
The Scarsdale Board of Education approved a plan for interracial education but deferred final action for 1969. The board designated Vernon as the only sending community and said details could not be set by September 1969. Speakers urged immediate action while others argued for longer planning and outside help.
Residents are invited to a cornerstone ceremony and preview inspection of the new Village Hall on Post Road between Crane and Popham Roads at 3 15 p m Sunday March 23. Mayor Malcolm A MacIntyre says interior is ready for occupancy and outside seating will be available near church parking lots.
Westchester Residential Opportunities Inc a new nonprofit aids Negro families in buying homes across the county. It provides second mortgage loans to supplement down payments and helps obtain favorable first mortgages through area banks. Dr Cecil Jack a St John’s University chemist joins neighbors in Ossining and Dobbs Ferry as early beneficiaries. The program, formed Oct 1968, aims to overcome racial discrimination and expand ownership with leaders including Dr Kenneth B Clark and Roger N Beilenson.
Residents of Union Free School District 1 in Scarsdale and Mamaroneck must apply in writing to the Brewster Road address by April 1, 1969 for transport to private or parochial schools. Eligibility requires a minimum 1.5 mile distance to the attended school and transport ends at 10 miles from home.

The Scarsdale School Board approved a ban on tape recorders TV cameras and motion picture devices at regular or special meetings unless authorized. The board aims to preserve free discussion. The retirement of kindergarten teacher Mrs Jeanette Foote after 36 years was noted and Franklin Myers named director of the Summer School. Key dates include budget hearing April 10 and district meeting May 6 8:30 p.m. in Junior High auditorium with machine voting May 7 1 8 p.m. in the same gym. Two portable classrooms will be added to Edgewood School to ease crowding.
The Scarsdale Board of Education and the Scarsdale Teachers Association failed to resolve issues under the New York Taylor Law after eleven negotiating sessions. A final session is set for March 18 with a mediator possible if impasse persists, focusing on salary and broader proposals including school plant, in service course, teaching evaluation, and the Scarsdale Teachers Institute.
The League of Women Voters provides election details for Scarsdale on March 18 1969 from 12 noon to 9 pm. District polling locations include Hitchcock Memorial Church Scarsdale Baptist Church Popham Road Fire House Crossway Fire House.
