Town Board Meeting Votes Tied for Assessor Nominees

At the March 2 1903 town board session the six members voted for assessor between C B Fish and Hiram K Benedict. the ballot tied at three each and the election was declared void with a new vote to be held at the next regular meeting.

Ullman Subscription Raises 197 50 for Late Postmaster

Seventy residents and others from Scarsdale and nearby towns contributed to a fund honoring the late Geo Ullman. The total subscription raised 197.50 to aid his widow with funeral expenses.

Seardale Club Admits New Member Horton at Meeting

The Seardale Athletic Club held a Saturday night meeting and admitted new member Rodman Horton. Members voted to buy new Indian clubs and to begin activities for the upcoming baseball season.

White Plains Congregational Church Notes

Weekly bulletins begin with church details and staff. It notes past sermon, service times for two branches, officer lists, and upcoming speakers Mr Theodore S Lee and Mr W H Tinker. A social by the Ladies Aid features Mrs Franklin H Warner. concert for Organ Fund drew about 200 attendees and netted roughly forty dollars with strong audience acclaim.

Carpenter's Pond Sawmill Replaced by New Dam

The Larchmont Water Company tore down Carpenter's old sawmill dating back over a century and began construction of a taller dam to form a storage reservoir. The site, bought by a carpenter before the revolution, supplied lumber for nearby houses as the landmark disappears.

Arthur Osborn Pritchard Called as Assistant Pastor

At a White Plains Congregational Church meeting last week a call was extended to Arthur Osborn Pritchard to become assistant pastor. Pritchard has agreed and will serve at Arthur Manor where he has assisted since October and is well liked by the congregation.

Leg Broken by Heavy Flag At Scarsdale Site

An Italian contractor helper for Smith Bros. of Pelham suffered a crushed leg when a lapestone flag fell while unloading from a truck. The flag was intended for a walk in front of Mr. W. W. Orr’s new horse on Scarsdale Company property. Dr H E Schmid arranged urgent care. the worker was taken to White Plains Hospital, but his employer later moved him to an Italian home. Amputation is feared.

White Plains Methodists to Build a New Church

The White Plains Memorial M. W. Church plans a larger building on the current site costing about 60000. They have raised 40000 by subscription. The new church will offer enhanced space for the church, Sunday school, Epworth League, and social meetings both inside and out.

Health Board Meeting Adopts Rules in Scarsdale

The Scarsdale Health Board met at Town Hall on March 2. Dr J H Gunning was elected Health Officer for the year. The board adopted its rules and regulations. One death certificate for Miss Mary E K Buckley was reported. Adjourned to 8 pm on April 1, 1903.

Yonkers Plans Macadamization of All Long-Used Roads

Yonkers common council members voted to macadamize all roads designated as public highways for twenty years or more. The project will be financed by bonds repayable through annual tax installments on city property.

Sydney Holloway enters multiple horses in Washington races

Mr. Sydney Holloway has sent four of his horses B Sacks Colley Vasvar Dance and Happy Cross to Bennings Washington for late this month and early next to compete in Siemen's races. He plans to attend each race and monitor his entries in turn at the track.

Progress on the Scarsdale Company Property

Five houses under construction on the Scarsdale Company's property are being pushed to completion for occupancy this spring. Plans also call for three more homes to be started this spring or summer for James G Canhon Myron B Evans and Harry F Ballentyne.

Greenville School Truant Officer Reports Attendance Slump

Mr Farrington the truant officer visited the Greenville school on Tuesday March 10 as eighth graders prepare for Regent examinations in White Plains this month. Bad weather and poor roads reduced primary attendance for weeks though it has improved. Dist No 97 Scaradale observed Lincoln and Washington birthdays with readings and songs while School No 2 reported very low attendance due to widespread colds among pupils.

Water Tank Rampage Sparks Comical Town Scene

A mischief spree ends with a water tank toppled by locals after removing the wheel from a town tower. The tank rolled toward Chester D and others flee as ropes drag it to a halt near White Path Road. Onlookers laugh while the hero escapes.
