Village Board held an informal open hearing on the 1962 Master Policies Plan amid heavy snow. About 30 residents and as many officials attended to discuss recreation uses including a proposed municipal skating rink and a cultural center on the Scarsdale Supply property.
Westchester Symphony Orchestra and Workshop directed by Oscar Shumsky will premiere Alan Shulman’s Theme and Variations for Cello and Chamber Orchestra on March 17. Shulman soloist, family ties noted, piece completed December 1966 to showcase cello colors with winds strings and brass.
The League of Women Voters of Scarsdale will publish a Voters Guide for the March 21 village election. It will include polling places, districts, voting qualifications, a sample ballot and candidate biographies with party labels. Copies go to members and public locations. inquiries to Mrs. Goldberg or Mrs. Wells.
Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce hosts a dinner and open forum for business and professional people at the Scarsdale Inn. Co chairmen Gene J. Altieri and Dominick Serra invite attendees to air complaints on parking, customer loss, and city planning. The Town Hall style meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7.
Scarsdale Woman's Club opened its nominating meeting on March 8 led by Mrs. Henricus J. Stander. Nominations for 2-year directors include Mrs. Gibson M. Allen and others to be voted April 19. Officers for a second term include President Mrs. Vincent du Vigneaud and four vice presidents along with secretaries and treasurer.
Ex-officio members of Scarsdale Town Club Convocation Committee defend selecting Dean Rusk as the first recipient of the new public service award. The release rejects claims of endorsement of Vietnam policy and argues the honor reflects global public service and civic leadership by a Scarsdale native who later served as Secretary of State.
The Scarsdale Police Department studies using a police call box network to relay reports to headquarters, enabling officers to stay on patrols. If adopted it would be the first such system in New York State and may save up to 45 minutes per report. The plan includes tape recording documents and clerical typing. A field interrogation report system and offender folders are also being pursued to curb burglaries. John Rizzo and Daniel Dowling face charges. Dowling’s case goes to White Plains Grand Jury.
Leonard Kane reports the Democratic lead in Scarsdale registration from 1966 to 1967 with 5275 Republicans and 2775 Democrats out of 9488 voters. Republicans show a net loss while Democrats fall slightly, shaping a negotiated ratio for the nonpartisan nominating process.
