Mrs. Grace Doolittle French Ends 30 Years at Scarsdale Schools
The Board of Education accepted the resignation of Mrs. Grace D. French effective year end after three decades as social studies teacher at the Scarsdale High School. She began in 1926 teaching seventh grade as enrollment grew across Greenacres Edgewood and the High School. Her career included the 1949 ninth grade production Introducing Scarsdale and wide community involvement. She and her husband plan retirement to New Hampshire this summer.

Edgemont Schools Study New Teacher Salary Schedule
The Edgemont Board of Education discussed a proposed base salary of 4000 for teachers with a bachelor’s degree and 4300 for those with a master’s degree. The plan includes automatic $200 yearly increases for bachelor’s degree holders to 6400 and merit promotions to 8000 for qualified master’s degree teachers. New hires would receive up to eight years’ prior experience credit. The board aims for no tax-rate increase next year and will defer final action until March 20 after community review.

Scarsdale Pupils To Be Participants In Music Festival
Scarsdale Public Schools will send students to a music festival sponsored by the Westchester County School Music Association at Port Chester Senior High School on March 16 and 17. Three groups will perform including an elementary chorus of 225 voices a junior high chorus of 180 and a 150 piece junior high band. Students from Edgewood Fox Meadow Greenacres Heathcote and Scarsdale High will participate with rehearsals at Port Chester and a public concert Saturday afternoon. Willard S. Scarsdale and Hartsdale Boy Scouts competed in the Immaculate Heart of Mary gym with Troop 7 taking top honors. The event judged teams on diagnosis speed and treatment accuracy amid simulated injuries, awarding 84 points to Troop 7 led by Frauenthal and Herschensohn. Troops 4 and 9 tied for second with 82.
